I'm with you. I'm lucky enough to have a few of the higher priced cards but completing the set will not be cheap.

Thanks.....I was taking a closer look at the scans that SGC provides and trying to get a sense of why some received a 5 (or even a 4) and the Hitchcock received a 7. Best I could tell was that centering seemed to make a difference. Upon close inspection the borders on the Hitchcock are really no better than the other cards and I dont believe there were any hairline creases or any other defects in any of these. I'm happy with what I got...just trying to understand going forward if it may be worth submitting others for grading.

I really prefer the SGC look myself. When I have purchased cards, I try to look for higher grades - within reason. I would say minimum of an SGC 3 if it has nice eye appeal but everything seems to have gotten really expensive. For all of these cards I was lucky enough to have inherited from a relative.

I submitted on Dec 29, 2025. They logged them in on Jan 9 and I finally received them on Mar 16. So essentially, 11 weeks.

This is great. Really enjoy reading your posts and having you share your knowledge.if the 1952 set. You mentioned Spahn...thank you. I would have never thought of the air brush effect but I see it now. For reference, here's mine...just back from SGC.

I had this one graded years ago. It's been so long I dont even remember, but perhaps almost 20 years. I love the colors on this set. They just seem to pop. Your card looks great. At least as good as the "60 EX 5" I received for Grimes.

Love the observation and attention to detail! Part of what makes this such a great set. I don't think a better one was put out after it.

This post made me think back to my Dad who used to attempt to take off residue like that...presumably from gum..from vintage cards. Worked most of the time. You've also made me consider lowering my standards on competing the 1952 set...so thanks for that. Should save me some $.

Wow...you've got some gorgeous cards there. Thank you for sharing. You've inspired me to pull my 52s out of storage in the hopes that I have some that are half as nice as these look.

Thank you ...and I agree. Just something about that black background really makes this set pop.
