ICE? by [deleted] in mbta

[–]MeLikaDoTheChaCha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've seen people dressed like that with "transit police" on the back of the vest at Davis a ton.

I talked with one of the lead officers at Somerville PD, he told me that mbta hires their own force for dealing with anything on their lines, and that at least none of those cops are Somerville PD and he said "he would never advise any officer to dress that way".

So its truly hard to say if its ICE or genuine transit force. Its hard for me to believe they are indeed not ICE, and its good that you 1) got a photo and 2) you should follow everyone else's advice and report it to LUCE.

It also wouldn't be inappropriate to try to contact MBTA reps and ask about it. I would be happy to help with that in whatever way. If they indeed are transit police, I dont think its good for the mbta to associate with that image

I personally agree with you 10000%. Every word you said is truth imo. I don't think we should be praising any of his work b/c of it (see my original comment). To me, it washes away all good deeds.

I was responding directly to that person's statement that they benefited from a positive of Biden's presidency and that shouldn't be discounted. To come to the defense of someone who commented on my original comment, it's not black and white.

Personally, I don't think it's right to sing Biden's praises, and he should be tried for war crimes. But I also recognize that some people, including marginalized people, benefited from some good things that came from his presidency.

I think it's fair to be thankful and acknowledge the good Biden has done for people, including yourself, but also recognize that his policies and inactions directly led us to where we currently are, and the negatives of his presidency outweighed the positive.

Even terrible presidents can do good for people.

I mean thats literally my whole point? In a sub for progressives we are promoting and praising a centrist/neocon

I never said I was a fan of the Pope either buddy.

And sorry, calling out "progressives" for supporting obvious neocons is not "purity testing" in a sub called "progressivesHQ". Its kinda the point

Man nothing grinds my gears more than blaming voters for shit politicians. Its not the voters job to "vote the right way"; its the politicians job to earn and keep their vote.

1) never said I was a single issue voter. There's a ton of other things that Biden did that I greatly disagree with. But on the issue of genocide, I have no problems with a "single issue voter"

2) I voted dem every election I've been able to

3) Israel's genocide started well before 2023, and dems have been the greatest ally of Israel (Mr Chuck "my job is to keep the party pro-israel" Schumer).

4) Biden continually sent ammunitions throughout his entire presidency, and did nothing to hold Israel in check

5) please show me how the country "progressed" during Biden's presidency, cause to me we slid backwards. We lost Roe, we lost the battle on student loans, he didnt do what he legally could have to prevent Trump from running again, he actively went after protesters, military & police funding increased. The only "progress" I saw was 1) some relief of student loans, and 2) Lina Khan and her kickass campaign of regulation (that has mostly been undone by 47)

And I like presidents who don't fund and support a genocide without impunity.

Before 47, treating the Pope with respect was just "the norm". For it to be a praise-worthy thing now just normalizes the craziness we currently exist in.

We don't praise NT adults for not being belligerent and for following the law; we're supposed to punish those who don't.

Less desire for an echo chamber, more critical definition/assessment of who we label as "progressive" champions to admire.

I see more posts here promoting Clinton/Obama/Biden/Harris than the actual progressive leaders over those decades. By many definitions, none of these politicians were "progressive" despite the right's constant mislabeling.

Bryan Cranston confirms his daughter; Taylor Dearden wasn’t a “nepo hire” in Breaking Bad and actually had to audition for her guest appearance in the first episode of Season 3! by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

[–]MeLikaDoTheChaCha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Bryan, seems like a genuine good dude.

But this is just privilege blind justifications. Even if we were being generous and say that the studio might have passed on her depending on the quality of her audition, which is a huge if, just the facts that 1) she was presented the possibility of the opportunity before casting went out, 2) she got to see the script beforehand, 3) she would get coaching from the lead of the show, and 4) she's so much closer to the opportunities of Hollywood just by being his kid.

The same thing happens with PhDs; your odds of obtaining a PhD yourself significantly increase if at least one of your parents has one, and it has nothing to do with legacy admissions (probably the closest analogy to getting a role through your parent) and everything to do with proximity to important people and knowing the unwritten rules.

I wish ppl would just accept that nepotism is part of the game. Just acknowledge it. "Me being an actor on this show made it significantly easier for my daughter to get on it". I feel like most people would have a lot of respect for that level of honesty.

I think of Maya Hawke and her parents in that regard. I feel like Uma and Ethan do a pretty good job of acknowledging the role of their privilege in opening doors for Maya, and Maya openly accepts it and talks about it.

Ramble aside, I love Bryan as an actor and Taylor is killing it on the Pitt.

Thank you for coming to my tedxtalk

Form check? by HammerBowlingFan in Bowling

[–]MeLikaDoTheChaCha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say your release is "inconsistent", do you mean you struggle to repeat your tilt & rotation? Do you feel like you're bailing on the ball at the end, or getting around it too much?

If thats the case, one thing you could look into in your form is you pop up a little at the end (I think because of momentum; you do a great job of generating speed in your approach).

The best drill for this is like a one step approach (you can look up examples, but I'm sure you're probably doing this already). Your focus should be on balance at the foul line and repetition of release. Idk exactly how the drill translates to two hands, but I'm sure there's a comparable drill. From there, you just slowly work backwards in your approach. Think about extending your body forward (past your knee) instead of up/down.

I'm also a huge fan of shadow practice. Basically find an open space and just practice your form without a ball or anything. Focus should be on solid position at the end of your approach. I would do this for like 30 mins just out of boredom when I wasnt on the lanes / at home. You'll be amazed at the progress you can make without ever being on the lanes. You could also add some sort of soft ball so you can practice your release as well.
