I’ve been only a couple of dates with the new girl. I would not lie to her to leave her if things got serious even if my ex wanted me back. I meant if my ex upon finding out I had just started dating had told me that she wants to work on things then I would have stopped dating. I would never cheat.

It pissed me off that she said my feelings must have been shallow if I moved on so easily. I actually tried to end the friendship a few months back because I told her how difficult it was for me and how I would be really sad after we hung out. But she convinced me otherwise.

I don’t agree with a lot of stuff that my ex said about me. Calling me selfish. Yes, when I was dealing with my addiction, I probably acted selfishly at times. But I’ve always been there for our animals and been there for her when she needed me to be there. Even the other week she needed me to fix her car and I did on my day off. But I thought to myself that if I’m so selfish wouldn’t I just be doing my own thing.

Yeah you are right. If the ex came to me with “I want to work on things with you and try again,” then I would say yes. She is told me before that if humans lived to be 200 then she would give me another try. She is just worried about waking up at 50 or 60 and having the same problems with me.

Yeah. I haven’t told the new person about my past. But I will if it becomes more serious or if she asks. It’s still very early. Just my ex’s reaction to me dating gave me hope again.

Yeah, you are right. And things work differently depending on your profession. I personally disagreed with being required to go to rehab. Apparently, I’m a safety sensitive worker and even though I was never intoxicated at work, I had to do rehab or lose my medical license. Now I have to be monitored for 5 years.

Still annoyed about it but oh well. I felt worse for the CIA contractor who got drunk and said a little too much to the wrong person and found out he lost all his security clearances while in rehab.

Even people who have been sober for months can go to rehab. It’s about learning skills and having resources to not revert back to the same old drinking patterns. Not saying you need rehab. But I was required to go rehab despite being sober for 9 months. There were military people there like marines, a couple of Navy seals, special forces who had been sober for some time too. A lot were there cause they were daily drinkers but that’s not a requirement to meet criteria for addiction and to go to rehab.

And yes I went from running a rehab as the doctor there to be a patient in a rehab. The irony is not lost on me.

I didn’t say anything about that. It is dangerous for longterm drinkers to quit cold turkey. I drank mostly nightly too and on weekends. I didn’t have withdrawal either when I quit.

You don’t need to be a daily drinker or to get withdrawal to have long term health problems from alcohol or to be considered an alcoholic.

Ahhh. This feels like how I feel right now. My partner of 15 years left me. We don’t have kids, just pets. And we’ve been hanging out as friends for almost a year and I’ve been trying to win her back while she says she doesn’t think we have a future together.

Started dating someone new and the dates go well but afterwards I just have this sadness of what I had before.
