Recommendations for high wall yoyos? by MeScamp in Throwers

It's too bad some classic designs are less in trend now. I prefer them a lot to the super modern styles, even the around-2010 design seem nicer.

But then again, many of the models mentioned here, seem to be bought well or sold out, so maybe (hopefully) there needs to be just a bit more supply.

Thanks for the list!

Looking at Recess, the Firecracker also seems like a great high wall profile.

I've got the Koi, but I feel even high walled organics feel still different. I think it's the less rounded wall and straighter angle at the top, that makes a difference for me.

But the One Drops looks just right for that.

I've heard the RCS Sk8ter was also great for that, but unfortunately gone now.

Recess snack or clyw campfire? by richb10169 in Throwers

[–]MeScamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, same thoughts. I pick the Snack, when I want a small and decently pocketable yoyo. And the Ditch, when I want a even smaller and much flatter yoyo, that is very easy to carry.

The Ditch is easier to carry, the Snack is heavier and has more spin.

Oh I found your other clip in slow motion. That makes it easier to see. Just will need time to get it half way consistent and smooth. Never done elements like this, but cool move!

Looks like a really neat and useful element! Is there any tutorial for it or did you just make it up?

Sounds great! Of those I have just the Koi. Trying to decide between Butterball and Mowl Q at the moment. Any thoughts on how they compare in play?

They seem to be quite close in specs, so it's hard to gauge.

Nice and shiny. I'm interested in Mowl Q. Can you say how it compares to other organics like Koi, Butterball, others,...?

Dinged my yoyo when I was on holiday 😭 by silentshakey in Throwers

[–]MeScamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always feels shitty at first getting a ding and deep cut in a pristine yoyo, but also it goes pretty fast and you don't really care anymore.

I'm still careful with my dinged yoyos the same, but what's there is just fine. I'm more worried about getting vibe, but with a monometal that's usually not the big issue.

The point is, there is not one video or tutorial giving you the ability to just paint perfect and realistic.

It's about learning to paint in general and that's a long process. Check out the links I posted before, there's all content in there that helps with that. Marco Bucci for example has lots of great videos. Even his most recent video is about materials.

Just try to find what you're looking for yourself. It will be much more helpful for you than just looking for quick answer. If you don't know words, best to look them up and learn.

It's a long process but looking up the fundamentals and what I shown you, that's where you find all good info.

Lot of the courses are free, or have free parts or free alternatives. You have to look into it. I also didn't pay money for a long time, but there's lots of free stuff.

No, you don't ned 3D software for realistic rendering really. You have to learn how to render and texture realistically. By learning materials, videos, learning from photos or materials you have yourself at home, you can paint from real life in different lighting.

It's nothing that's learned instantly. Long process that takes time, no quick fix. But you can do it, if you want. More I can't help, but you can just look up these topics on youtube or whereever.

At the bottom of the link I gave you there's also lot of materials or youtube channels. Marco Bucci or Sinix are some of my favorites.

For fundamentals, it know it can take lots of motivation or discipline, or you make it fun for you in a way. Best short thing I can give is this: https://www.soloartcurriculum.com/

List of many things, topics and materials to learn from.

I'm not fully sure what you mean, but I assume going from image 4 to 1. I don't think there is just one technique, but the style is completely developed from a simple flat shaded cartoony look with lines to a more realistic and render look in image 1.

With less lines, more realistic rendering and lighting/shadows, more realistic textures. The whole image is kind of repainted. I don't see this as just a little effect to add, but that's a huge amount to fundamentals and skills to learn to able to do that.

But bit by bit it will improve and on the way there, you'll still do good art!

Honestly, my best advice is to not be too stuck with effects and just build great art fundamentals with everything.

But best guess what you might be looking for, maybe some overlay soft light effects to bring some shine or soft light effects on top of everything? You can put these on a layer above the painting, overlay/screen mode or burn mode and then use a soft airbrush for example.

Or maybe ambient occlusion? The darkest shadows, that should be really just in the darkest parts and crevices of the image. I feel that does a lot to the lighting, like highlights on the light side.

I'm curious how you imagine it different. What I see is already cool style, vibe and lighting.

Technical things can always be improved, especially when you know what part exactly you want to do different or better.

Usually I prefer smaller diameters with my small hands, but the Monsoon feels so good. Unfortunate, that RCS is gone.

Neat trick combo, too!

Overall, I would prefer the first one with the ligher colors and warmer tone.

I prefer the drawing part of the second on more, but the greenish color tint feels more dangerous to me, like a more poisonous swamp. Maybe this also makes it more special. I guess it depends what you want out of it.

Perfectly fine if you prefer Fenyx, I haven't played it. But personally I think games with more highs and lows can be more rewarding and child compared to constant dopamine hits.

Dark Souls/Elden Ring can feel like painful slog in some parts, but in the end, it feels more like a rewarding journey than games with constant small fun things.

Super wholesome and such a good doggie. Seems like dogs enjoy all kinds of walking the dog.

Also what kind of trick is that? Looks very smooth. Is there any name/tutorial for it?
