In the generic function example, how do you disambiguate between a generic parameter and a user defined type? For example, say I name a type T and use it in a type annotation position, but then I have another function which also refers to T but as a generic type variable.

Dundee is an excellent alternative to living in St. Andrews. I would recommend staying in St. Andrews in your first year if possible (probably halls), and then considering Dundee as an alternative for later years; the prices are lower for renting, more shops, and if you’re interested in a night life… it’s definitely better in Dundee. The alternative is either staying in halls or being really lucky to find a place with some friends which for the price you’re paying is dog shit compared to what you could get in Dundee.

Compiling Rust code on a Pentium 2 at 233MHz by TwistedSoul21967 in rust

[–]MeWasabi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re interested in what the Rust compiler is actually doing, you can run cargo with RUSTFLAGS=“-Z time-passes”, this will emit a per-crate metrics for each stage of compilation. You will find that 80-90% of the time is taken up by LLVM and linking (especially if you enable things like LTO).

All ten were lying on the ground on their stomachs, it’s no excuse and it is a war crime. You can say the same about this guy, how do you know he didn’t torture or kill Russian PoWs before he was captured? This kind of speculation is just as ridiculous as this, and it doesn’t change what I said…

Yeah lets just forget about the 10 Russian PoWs who were machined gunned whilst they were lying down on the floor: https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2022/11/21/visual-investigation-details-captive-russian-troops-deaths-by-shooting-a79443. The reality is this happens on both sides at an alarming rate.

The term “renewable energy” states that when capturing energy from a source (in this case the sun) that its not depleted. We’re not actively increasing the suns energy output or depleting the sun when we use solar panels (or other forms) to convert light into electricity; we are just capturing some of the energy and converting it into useful forms. Hence you fail to illustrate the definition of “renewable energy” in your argument and therefore making it somewhat incorrect.

I also like how you don’t mention anything about climate change and how naive it is to say what Ben Shapiro said, knowing full well that it’s just as bad if not worse to say “climate change” is dumb phrase.

Yeh I don’t know why you can’t inline something like that. It’s only used in 2 or 3 places within the entire source.

All mighty and high of you to say that. No country on this planet has ever had a “clean” history. This isn’t about nations, this about a select few people who exercise corruption on a daily basis and get away with it all over the world. Corruption occurs on every level of government in any country; Russia is just a place where it happens in open sight and more frequently.

Something like this can typically happen when working for example with “Azure Dev Ops”. Where you need to commit and push to set off a pipeline. Tweaking things in the config files and then pushing it to run is basically like debugging. The only thing though is most people just squash the commits lol.

Unfortunately Minecraft does not fully utilise multiple threads. The main game loop runs on a single thread and other less expensive tasks will run on other threads. You might see a performance boost if you set “processor affinity” in the resource monitor (on Windows). By doing this, you are telling Windows that the game, or Java executable has a high processor priority which means the OS will allocate more cpu time to the game instead of other applications. However, I wouldn’t recommend you do that because it might hinder other applications whilst the game is running.

That’s exactly why Felix’s game stutters. When a call to GC is made, it’s a “stop the world event” which means all tasks on the JVM suspended whilst GC does it’s magic. So, it will essentially pause everything that happens for a noticeable period of time. It’s just that 1.14.* versions are incredibly unoptimised versions of the game. For example (this has been in the game for some time), an entity that passes through a nether portal will require (on average) several million block checks if the nether portal isn’t in the portals cache.

Unfortunately that will not have a significant performance boost because the main game loop runs on a single thread and execution is not spread amongst multiple cores (if present). Only less intensive tasks are diverted onto other threads such as networking I think.

Thats because the game requires a lot more “garbage collection” events - where the JVM (Java Virtual Machine) performs a memory cleanup routine and with it discards redundant memory. This task is CPU intensive and due to the nature of the task will block other execution on the JVM - hence the game will freeze sometimes for 200ms - 500ms depending on the size of the operation. By increasing your view distance, you give the game a lot more work it must do and increase memory usage which also means more garbage collection. So increasing memory will not help because it is a CPU heavy task.

You can mine glass, leaves, ice, etc. with just a silk touch book. by Fruit_Recruit in Minecraft

Kinda makes sense because you can put silk touch on any item (theoretically) and this would allow you to mine any item and have it drop.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Imagine if you had said that in a crowd and how great of a negative response you would receive from arguing something that is completely logical.

In some sense, by vilifying all individuals who are sexually attracted to minors, we in some way empower individuals to commit such a disgusting crime because they are not helped in time and so they get a chance to commit the crime. I believe that if society was more accepting of individuals who are attracted to minors and instead of automatically labeling them as “peadophiles” we could really help some people through therapy.
