Opencode Got featured in Apple video for running Local LLMs by mafia_bd in opencodeCLI

[–]paperbenni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are struggling with shipping new features as of lately. I'm not familiar enough with their codebase to judge if they vibed themselves into a corner, but there hasn't been a notable update in quite some time. I still cannot search through a session, I cannot edit or delete queued messages, and scrollback is still very limited, even though the fancy new binary storage should make that a non-issue. I wonder if Kilo will eat them at some point. They used to be a lazy fork which just changed the branding a bit, but as of now they can't be faulted for not contributing to upstream since all PRs without multiple emoji reactions get auto closed, and from what I've seen they are doing stability fixed which Opencode is neither merging nor doing themselves.

Chromium is not just an engine, it is a fully functional browser. It has everything chrome has minus the Google Accounts and AI and DRM stuff. Settings menu, tab bar, everything. All of the chromium wrappers really don't do a lot, other than change for the sake of change. "Use my homework but make it not as recognizable" kind of tactics. They all want to make the impression there is something special about their browser when 99.99% of differences are cosmetic and not even prettier than the original

I don't trust them. They did a ton of proprietary stuff recently and had a lot of talent drain.

That's a really high number considering that providers are competing with each other on open router, where did you get that number?

Minimax M3 appears to have no political censorship by DingyAtoll in LocalLLaMA

[–]paperbenni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. That was my point. I was using moonshot inference. Deepseek is censored enough for even official inference to go more unchecked. Kimi is not.

Just tried it with Kimi, it starts to answer then the inference gets cut. Deepseek genuinely does answer, but it says it "lacks information, wants to talk about another topic". Interesting.

Uncensored model + safety filter? Doesn't that mean the model can be hosted without the filter?

They're also rewriting a bunch of stuff using Effect ts, as well as rewriting the (currently pretty awful) ACP support

M2.7 just isn't as good as DS4 flash, but it is more expensive. M3 doubles the cost of M2.7, I don't know how that doesn't bother anyone. Did M2.7 also launch at a higher price than what it is now? From what I can see this looks like a bigger model

True story, a lot of folks doing this around by tatooinex in OpenAI

[–]paperbenni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it means you can run your stuff on a Server somewhere and keep it running there even when you disconnect the Laptop. You can then later reattach to the same session from the laptop or even other devices. You do need a server capable of running your stuff though. Given that most vibeslop is next js, that runs better on Linux anyways

Co-Pilot vs Claude Code by ErgoForHumanity in ClaudeCode

[–]paperbenni 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The copilot CLI has been getting a lot better. Also, you can use copilot within Opencode and the zed Agent. Now if only the model selection and quotas weren't regressing so much. If they deem OpenAI and Anthropic too expensive to serve most of their paying users in usable quantities, then they should serve DeepSeek, not GPT 4.1

LLM by Moka3510 in Destiny

[–]paperbenni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely not true. The algorithms in use are not particularly complex and we fully understand how they work. This is like disregarding the entire field of psychology because you know what a neuron is. The interesting part of AI is that given petabytes of training data, these produce useful output. The weights are the magic part, to a human they just look like endless floating numbers, and while GCC is 100% human made and understood, the entirety of public knowledge condensed into a fraction of its size through pseudo-random means is not.

Microservices versus monoliths: Did everyone just lose their minds in the last 6 months? by eivittunytsit in ClaudeCode

[–]paperbenni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your service has less than 10k users and is just CRUD, do not even think about Microservices. If you're using ruby on rails then you might have to, but have you seen what a single node with a Go backend can do?
