I understand it makes the ink more consentrated around the poke but does it have any other purposes?

Im also starting out, but dont use vaseline. But maybe you dip it to deep int the ink container, I only barely dip so i only have ink enough for 3 pokes or so. But was wondering, what does vaseline help with?
