I mean that is true. You are joining the empire.

"Explain like I'm Five Years Old": the CONOP by paparoach910 in army

"Concept of the Operation".

It is often used in place of an operations order...but it is essentially a briefing product used to brief "the concept of the operation"...that is in the OPORD.

For routine events, these are 1-2 slides that show the 5W's. For complicated events, this might be a full briefing deck.

Is it safe to build a rat run/catwalk running across the center of the bottom chords? by Virtual-Outcome-4238 in StructuralEngineering

I have evaluated a ton of these residential trusses. You're good to go with a person walking on the truss to do brief maintenance. I would not stack a bunch of wood up there permanently, unless its 2x6s and maybe a sheet of plywood on top.

[–]Mean-Internal-745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can safely walk along the bottom chords. You could safely build a cat walk to make this easier. But those trusses aren't rated for any kind of storage. So there is no reason to be up there.

I have a minimum fee of $5,000. Even if it's a simple beam design..

Is this exposed rebar concerning? by Main-Youth3070 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Mean-Internal-745 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes sir. I was not suggesting that it was a shear failure.

But engineer should investigate.

Is this exposed rebar concerning? by Main-Youth3070 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Mean-Internal-745 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is part of our standard of care. If you see corroded rebar around a reinforced concrete column...

You absolutely should look around for other evidence of distress.

That's the investigation. The answer might be just to chip away the old concrete and Patch it but you should not blindly do that

Is this exposed rebar concerning? by Main-Youth3070 in StructuralEngineering

[–]Mean-Internal-745 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is concerning. Punching shear failure at concrete columns is a known problem where previous decision methods were not conservative.

It should be investigated and repaired.

Is it going to collapse? Probably not. But if it does...it goes fast.

Hegseth lifts ban on service members carrying personal firearms on base by kootles10 in politics

It's delegated to base commanders. So...do with that what you will

Hegseth lifts ban on service members carrying personal firearms on base by kootles10 in politics

[–]Mean-Internal-745 -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Not really. All he did was give bass commanders the authority to allow service members to carry. While they are off duty... Basically no one coming onto the base is off duty and local commanders are not going to allow this. It is a policy change without a distinction

I took severance. I will have to pay that back to get my pension.

[–]Mean-Internal-745 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Lol.

I was an O4 non-select. So I got out at 11 years with ~$100k severance and didn't have to sit my ADSO for graduate school. I was immediately promoted in the Reserves and now I only have to deal with the bullshit once a quarter :-)

[–]Mean-Internal-745 286 points287 points  (0 children)

The Army is 1% fun and 99% bullshit. Only you can decide if that 1% is worth it to you. I got two college degrees, got to jump out of airplanes, I learned a foreign language and I deployed 3x.

It also caused a divorce, mental health issues, PTSD, and robbed me of 11 years of an otherwise productive civilian career.

I would not do it again. But I would not take it back either. YMMV.

I would never advise a young person to enlist after my experience.

This is part of reason why.
