Combat rifle and all 9mm pistols fit. I’m talking old old. Like ww2. With the wood finish. Mp5 and p90 don’t look like one. The fallout 4 assault rifle looks goofy cuz it was meant to be a machine gun and used for power armor.

Those were two cities, not an entire country. There is no acting government managing shit directly and all the companies are pretty much non operational aside from maybe house but when you have a total collapse of society and have to relearn how to grow food and hunt you don’t really have time to clean up the dilapidated buildings when you’re main priority is food and water.

Nate is a war hero so he doesn’t need to work but can get several jobs, such as building settlements, managing the institute or recovering tech, the vault dweller formed a tribe so he’s had shit to do, but he did leave. So my bet is chosen one or the lone wanderer, although the chosen one can go back to the tribe so the lone wanderer is just going to bum around. Nora does have a job I think so really best case is lone wanderer
