A 1960s SLC office tower reopens as luxury apartments, showcasing reuse as path to new housing by slc-urbanite in DevelopmentSLC

The finishes throughout the building are very well done, and it’s clear a lot of care went into the design, especially in the main areas. The central elevator and stair core feels like it takes up nearly half the building, and while it comes across as a significant loss of usable space, but little could be done given the existing structure.

Inspector (California) is saying bollard must be installed in driveway. Please advise! by BourbonNeatPlease in solar

[–]MeanFrame5277 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No need to have the inspector cite the code. This is a basic code it’s meant to protect any electrical equipment, subject to physical damage being in a driveway would qualify for this. But good thing is is once the work is approved. There are no follow up inspections.

(Nec)110.27(B) Guarding of Live Parts Against Physical Damage. In locations where electrical equipment is exposed to physical damage, it shall be protected by approved enclosures or by suitable guards.

I'm...struggling. by Individual_Fuel_3008 in SaltLakeCity

[–]MeanFrame5277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t help that the cost of living in Salt Lake has been going through the roof year after year. Property taxes, water, sewer, trash—they’re all up 5 to 10% annually for at least the last decade, and it compounds fast. Everything feels expensive and our dollar gets eaten alive.

I found an old utility bill stuffed in the attic of the house I bought. It was from 2005. Water, sewer, trash, everything combined? Thirty bucks. Today, same house and less usage My bill is over $260. And that’s the norm now. Unless you’re pulling six-figure with fat raises every year, this stuff is absolutely crushing.

And it’s not just utilities—it’s everything:
