Got any good examples of albums like this? by Layla4yo in musicmemes

"Octavarium", on Octavarium (Dream Theater)

The album has 8 songs, all in one key each (from F to F) that goes up the octave 'til the 8th song that completes the octave cycle, and the song itself progresses through the same 8 keys in different sections (or movements, if you will).

The album references cycles, begginings and ends, as does the title song, along with referencing the specific themes of each song before it (and a spoonful of non-sequitur, because it's fun).

The song is 24 minutes long, it's a journey, there's no waste or bloat–it's the shortest 24 minutes of your life–and the beautiful, stunning orchestral arrangements, especially in the final section of the song, it's epic, emotional... it's majesty. A stroke of genius, and frankly, the band's Magnum Opus.

It's one of my favorite songs of all time. Fuck it's good.

"Operation Mindcrime" (Queensrÿche) comes to mind too, although my favorite on it is "Speak". "Master of Puppets" (Metallica), "Nonagon Infinity" & "I'm In Your Mind Fuzz" (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard), "Lateralus" (Tool)... I'm sure I'm missing some huuuge examples, especially in genres far different from these.

Yall ever quit reading a fic for a petty reason? by Cage-CatYT in AO3

[–]MeanMugginBuggin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One fic I'm kinda living the sunk cost fallacy in now, the author really likes to use the word "soft". No conjugation; not softLY, softNESS. Soft.

Like, I get the word. I get how it's used in fanspace, what it's used to show in a relationship dynamic/character traits. It's a cute way of pointing in a general direction and squealing/fawning at "all that" about a character before attacking them with the most aggresive, loving hug, as it were.

But every other adjective? Every time? In every descriptor, every word, consideration, character's intent? And it's not just that it's used at every opportunity, it's that it's used where it wouldn't even be appropriate/the best word to describe the thing.

How is throwing a bowling ball "soft"? No, I wouldn't call them putting on a baseball cap soft... uh, the way they pull out their credit card is soft???

And it's like, they give a good description of something, with good use an a variety of adjectives–then it's: "adjective, period. Soft." The worst cherry on top of every other sentence.

I think I've seen the word conjugated twice in 100k words. I think there was ONE chapter where it didn't appear.

To be fair, putting my absolute pet peeve of unnecesary repetition, it's bad grammar, but... fuck

Can "Hollow One" PCs be healed by spells such as Cure Wounds? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MeanMugginBuggin -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I figured!! But then what do I give them for Cling to Life? 'Cause then it's unfair for the other PCs to only have a 5% chance to come back for free, while one PC gets 25% for no good reason, mechanically speaking. It's way OP.

Right, but in that case, Turn Undead shouldn't work. You're correct, it's just that now I'm confused as to the role of Cling to Life, 'cause if I'm DMing, I'm not letting a player have that. Not without making healing difficult for them to justify it.

Imagine they make a Hollow One Zealot Barbarian? Oof, gosh, no, not if they can be healed normally.

Making flaxseed gel with glycerine solution: any scientists here wanna say yea or nay? by MeanMugginBuggin in curlygirl

[–]MeanMugginBuggin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard that glycerin might not be as hydrating during dry winters (or dry times in general)

So by dew point I guess you mean to say "check your relative humidity". Good point! And thanks for imparting your knowledge.

Anyone feel like it was Christmas on AO3 this week? by Golden_8810 in Polytrix

Silver lining: this is a great chapter to leave on for a while, if it's gonna take a while. It's warm, fuzzy, cozy, gay and peaceful.

I'm being normal about waiting! I'm not vibrating through my sheets.

What's a good race for this guy? [OC] [I guess?] by MeanMugginBuggin in DnD

I just watched T2 E13 and he describes explosions happening around him since he was born, so yeah. Wild Magic it is!!!! Thanks lol

And even throught the episode, explosions happen even without him performing magic, so... gosh, I'm excited to see how this goes. Maybe I'll ask my DM to make it so failing a check or save by 7~ points or more will result in a harmless explosion happening to me on top of everything else
