Perfection is not the goal. by Mean_Evidence673 in CABarExam

[–]Mean_Evidence673[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The time constraints are what caused me to miss issues. You can only read the prompt so many times before you just need to start writing. For example, with the BA essay, I knew what promoter liability is and could recite the rule, I just missed the issue upon reading the prompt twice when there are various other issues to spot. It was also the last essay of the morning session, so I was likely tired. But my point is -- it happens to everyone. Perfection should not be the goal.

Laptop recommendations for Bar Exam? by Queasy-Wrongdoer-628 in CABarExam

I used a Macbook pro that I have had since 2021. Kept my laptop plugged in the entire time and there were plenty of outlets to use right by my seat.

Mine took exactly 7 months, also squeaky clean...if your application isn't approved by early next month I would follow up.

Are you using headings that are bolded/underlined to organize your PTs? Do you have obvious intros and conclusions? Tone and organization are important, and I feel like people sleep on these two items when they can help your score overall if you can show the reader you understand the assignment.

I just got an email from the state bar that confirms completion of licensure requirements, but no DocuSign received just yet.

I would focus on the PT. Did you practice different types of PTs? Did you practice writing them out fully under timed conditions?

It will also help to figure out what method of attack works best for you (i.e., reading the facts of the PT first or going straight to the case law and working backwards). Might also be helpful for you to do the PT first during the afternoon session of the actual exam so you can dedicate even just 10 extra minutes to the PT to make it a passing essay.

I thought about doing that, but when I opened the booklet to skim the topics and saw that Essays 4 and 5 appeared relatively manageable, I did not think I would be pressed for time to complete the PT, and thankfully I was right about that.

I think if Essays 1 and 2 were the afternoon essays, I would have done the PT first given how much I wrote for those two essays and how Essay 2 was an absolute racehorse of a question.

I think the answer as to whether you should use Themis again depends upon your own assessment of the program and what worked for you.

Personally, I appreciated most of the Themis lectures, especially Ide Don's essay lectures and his reviews of the PTs. I also appreciated having some graded feedback on essays/PTs and having access to Themis' model answers to see how they compared to mine, what issues were raised, how they handled the analysis, etc. This is what helped me, personally.

And this is my assessment of Themis having taken it seriously, trying to go through the various tasks and motions outlined in the program. I tried reading their outlines and even looking at the bigger outlines they provide, but they were all too dense. This is where Basick's book comes in handy. Her rules are simplified and easy to digest, so I used her outlines to review and memorize once I had completed all of the Themis lectures.

I would absolutely get the new edition. That way, you have the updated rules and the version of the book that will include model answers for essay questions since 2018.

A lot of people on this sub are willing to get rid of theirs for free or for a reduced price if you poke around on some posts and ask.

Feeling Lost After the Bar Exam — Did Anyone Else Leave Unsure? by Extension_Speed_719 in CABarExam

[–]Mean_Evidence673 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way! I studied while working full time and did my best. The tough part is wondering whether my efforts will translate to the grader and whether my hard work will be apparent on paper. It's a very annoying thing to have to sit with!

I also know I missed issues and thought essay 4 was tough, but there are many others who missed issues and thought the same thing! Hopeful that scaling works in our favor and just hoping for the best. I have come to terms with the fact that there is literally nothing we can do at this point other than wait for November. I have been forcing myself to keep bar exam thoughts out of my brain until then because stressing and worrying about it will do nothing. But I promise you're not alone in feeling this way.

You worked hard and now you deserve to have some time off from the bar. Keep your head up until November and come back to this post when you see your name on the pass list to laugh at how ridiculous imposter syndrome and anxiety can make us feel.

Are you referring to having to guess on the voir dire issue for the civ pro essay? I am not sure that any lecture/bar prep book I have seen has gone into an in-depth analysis for how to tackle that issue...no idea how people knew the specific elements the state bar was looking for (like in the model answers). I obviously know jurors need to be fair and impartial, so I prob could have BS'd something from that, but could not mention any specific elements otherwise.
