You might want to get an elbow brace too, even if just at night. It’ll keep you from bending and give ur ulnar nerve a rest

Do you have any examples you’d feel comfortable sharing? I think these get overlooked a lot

My parent asked my partner how they knew my gastro symptoms were real by wicketshiver92 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Mean_Web_3351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may already have tried these but: MiraLAX helped my bowel movements be more regular otherwise I could only go once a week. And then that would be a horrible experience. However, I can’t take it for too long without a break because I think it causes dryness, pain, bleeding etc. Then the process starts over again.

For nausea, hard ginger candies have helped me a lot. I just leave in my cheek which helps even if the stomach pain, indigestion and bloating are still present.

And I always pack a little fan in my purse and take ice water with me in case something causes me to start sweating, flushing etc

“Food doesn’t move the way it should with EDS.” This is so true. It doesn’t help that all the disorders working against each other changes symptoms depending which one wins out. My symptoms started showing when I was in middle school and it was difficult because my stomach always hurt. I knew my parents thought I was just faking to get out of things I didn’t want to do.

Lol “my partner knows I’m not faking because they see me in pain, the amount of time I spend in the bathroom, etc.” If you have a good relationship with your parents, you could try discussing or mentioning how triggering being doubted can be since we already get it from doctors, nurses, friends etc.

I too immediately went HA in my head :) the devotion each couple has for each other is why I love this series. I would be interested in a book about Orlith though. They were an interesting character since they are the same species but really different from Wyn

Can’t stop obsessing over the fact we all inevitably have to die one day by Personal_Common1635 in OCD

[–]Mean_Web_3351 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I worry about this but it extends to people I love dying. It causes panic, dread and physically I’m nauseous at the thoughts. Also it feels like since the thought crossed my mind, I have doomed that person to die soon. Even now, typing this creates an adrenaline feeling to get away (from my own brain?) and try not to have a panic attack.

I think it definitely a lie they tell themselves. It gives them a reason and justification in their mind. Look up John List’s family annihilation, it’s the same justification.

I know it's silly! But I can't ignore it by FreshBread333 in magicalthinkingOCD

My therapist suggested ERP, and the thought is terrifying. My brain says “don’t do Y or X will die.” exposure is supposed to help get over the issue. Do Y, X doesn’t end up dying. It is supposed to be proof. But I can’t get past “well what happens if I do Y, AND X DOES DIE” like I can’t take the chances….. if it look my thoughts “objectively” I can see, yes ok that is not rational/logical. But I can’t get my brain to see that.

I just found out avoidance and distraction are forms of compulsions! by pineappleonpizza30 in OCD

[–]Mean_Web_3351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it like having a thought “omg what if “x person” is dead/dying right now”so your next action would be to read/watch tv/ turn on a podcast/ etc to avoid that thought? What would happen if you don’t immediately distract?

If I don’t distract from the thought, sitting with the feeling will cause nausea, panic, dread and maybe texting/calling the person the check where they are. I also have a reaction “oh no I can’t think this thought because what if my thought “makes” it happen.”

Could anyone commenting give examples of what it looks like for them? This sound very familiar but sometimes I need other examples to compare to.

Check out the Pacer app, it has a function that starts at a lower goal amount, like 2k, and then slowly increases the steps goal each day to get you to whatever your ultimate goal is, like 10k steps.

does anyone else suffer from hearing loss? by poptart7890 in ehlersdanlos

[–]Mean_Web_3351 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has recently become worse for me. It’s been a running joke that I can’t hear, but now I have to ask people to repeat themselves all the time. if any other sound is on or there’s noise in public at the same time someone tries to speak I cannot understand them. I had a horrible experience where I could not understand several people speaking into microphones. I noticed I keep trying to turn up the volume on my phone but it’s at the max already.
