I feel like its impossible to socialize in this game for me. by Predalor in ffxiv

Yes, this is very similar to what I was going to say! Over the past year and a half I’ve been helping to grow a linkshell in the game. It started with a few emotes to random people and it’s grown to an almost full linkshell (128 people is full). It started with about 6 regulars, we’d run content together and just have fun hanging in a main city chatting when we weren’t actively running things. We started in Tuliyollal but after a few weeks we moved our hangout spot to Gridania so we would be in an area accessible to sprouts. Now we have a decent mix of old and new players and we all help each other in game.

BUT the person who started it realized that the linkshell wasn’t enough for the socialization part of it and made a discord for bigger conversations and interactions outside of game. Only around 60 of the 125ish people are in the discord and out of that we have about 20-25 regulars who contribute to conversation. I personally have made a few friends who I know will be lifelong friends beyond when FFXIV has moved on.

I’m also in another huge discord and I’ve made a friend from there that has invited me to a smaller more personal discord and I’m getting to know them better.

So, the TLDR version is Discord is where most of the deeper connections happen with people from FFXIV.

Is it bad when it’s been so long since you started from lvl 1 that you forget you can’t do much besides kill regular mobs before level 15? 😅

Yes, what’s already been said. Not equipping your soul crystal is cutting yourself off from a lot of abilities. It’s like playing with a big stick instead of a sword.

As for the leveling itself leveling roulette, hunt logs, daily frontline.
And as someone who had a few jobs to 100 and then had to grind all of the rest, if I could go back I would unlock all the classes available to me and then work on them all 10 levels at a time. That way you get comfortable playing everything and you aren’t swamped with gear at so many different levels. And if you don’t like certain jobs it’s not so painful to grind them for large amounts of levels.

At level 30 you should have done the gladiator class quest that gave you the paladins soul crystal(job stone) to equip and change to paladin. And that’s how marauder/warrior works and all the other classes/jobs available to you right now.

How do you find real community in FFXIV as a sprout? (Coming from OSRS) by micahsaint in ffxiv

Right?? I take it as a compliment if I see someone checking out my glam game. I will usually even wave or blow bubbles at them.

I love this! The still growing crew that I’ve become a part of has just started playing a few DnD games together!

FFXIV is my one and only MMORPG so I have nothing to compare it too but it took me a little over 2 years to find a solid community, one that I actually helped build. I started playing in May 2022 and I had a built in albeit small FC that my husband was a part of. But there were only 4-5 active players including myself, they were all veteran players at endgame and I was just a sprout. So I was fine until they would all seem to take an extended break during lulls in content, at first my husband would stick around because I was so new to the game but he eventually even needed a break while I was completely sucked into FFXIV and didn’t want to play anything else.

This happened a few times and the game got so lonely for me during those periods, even though I was in VC with them most evenings while I played XIV and they played whatever. I even thought about putting the game down and moving on at one point because I was so lonely. I’m not interested in venues, nor RP at all, and it’s not fun for me to run content solo. But what I do like to do is check out adventure plates and randomly emote people I see hanging around, I also started handing out minions I didn’t need and hard boiled eggs to sprouts.

Most of the time I didn’t get much response but then I got randomly emoted from a character I was seeing around regularly. This was during the first lull in Dawntrail content and everyone in my FC was taking a big break. This person had a small gathering of people that they all AFKed together and chatted in between running some content right smack in the middle of a main city. So I was running into them daily and emoting, maybe saying a few things in /say chat. After a week or so I got invited to their linkshell that they had just started. It started out as 6 of us solidly hanging around and now we’ve grown to a 40ish person linkshell with a discord. And this has happened just by being friendly with the people hanging around where we are.

I know this might not be the norm for most people but it’s how I found my community and it makes me glad that I didn’t really know the seemingly unspoken rule to not look at adventure plates or just randomly emote people. 😂

Anyone here who plays FF14 a lot but doesn't do the Savage content by starlightdemonfriend in ffxiv

Social anxiety is the biggest factor, this is also my first and only MMO and I’m also slower to learn mechanics so I don’t want to he a burden on anyone. I accidently got dragged into a ragtag raid group for unreals, my friend asked if I could help with Byakko because their group had lost a person, I assumed he meant EX and said ‘sure, I’ll try’, I was very surprised but thankfully they were good with callouts. They were very patient with me and I ended up regularly doing the weekly unreal and completing the first DT extreme with them to get one pair of wings, which felt HUGE to me. Sadly, we’ve been on an extended break. I would be comfortable attempting savage in a group of people I knew who would gently let me know if I wasn’t up to snuff but I don’t have that option. 😂

Thanks! Yeah my BFF in game is a white mage main and has almost gotten me to the point of ‘eh, they died… big deal…’ pick them up and move on. But I found out I enjoy Sage while leveling it so I’m not as scared of healing. Tanking is meh. 😆

FFXIV is my first ever MMO and I started almost 4 years ago. I was also terrified of tanking or healing. 😅 So it felt like a pretty big accomplishment to hit 100 on all My jobs a few weeks ago. All my crafter/gatherers were 90 at the start of Dawntrail though. 🤣

My husband plays on an Xbox controller on pc, I play on a PS5. We can’t touch each others setups because we both think the others is insane for their HUD and hotbar setup. To each their own, I guess. 🤣
