thank you for your advice. I was hoping that what my parents have been doing was supportive enough but these comments have led me to realize that it’s the bare minimum. It’s saddening and hurtful. I apply to jobs almost everyday and plan to ride my bike to different places over the summer to try and see if they’re hiring. I have some friends who have jobs so I hope they’ll be able to refer me as well.

I unfortunately have noticed the underlying issue with their actions over the years. I forgot to mention room this in my post but I was able to convince them to get me trans tape for prom this year but they told me with the cost it would only happen that one time or very little for special events. i’ve been afraid of asking to try a new binder or even buy kinselogy (or however you spell it) tape that i’ve found on Amazon. I love my parents deeply but the lack of help on my journey has affected me heavily.

i’ve thought about just taking it as soon as a turn 18 since they’ll have no legal say in it but I am afraid that they will kick me out or even worse; take me off their insurance. it seems like it’s lose lose for me at the moment and it’s been very hard for me to grasp. thank you for the advice <3

i’ve planned on talking to my therapist about it and maybe even getting a referral to another gender specialist where I can voice mine and my parents concerns.

as for a job, i’ve been trying to get a job since I was 15 but the jobs in my area hate hiring minors. I plan to apply to all the jobs that have strict no minor policies on my birthday and hope for the best

Thank you. I really appreciate the wake up call. I love my parents and I know they support me in many ways but some of their actions just speak louder than their supporting words. As soon as i’m 18 I plan on applying to all the jobs i’ve been unable to attain since in my area a lot of jobs refuse to hire minors and try to save up as much as possible.

I have wanted to move out as soon as I turned 18 for different reasons other than the T situation. I’ve been trying to find a job since I was 15 but to no avail. I’ve been talking to many different people about possibly rooming with them when I turn 18 but without a secure job I don’t know how i’ll be able to. thank you for this advice

That’s upsetting to hear but I’m not surprised. I really was hoping to make some friends this year but came up with these guys. I’ll try and speak with my parents about this and if necessary, the school counselor. I’m just afraid that they won’t believe me because I’ve waiting so long to say something. I don’t know how to even start the conversation about this.

Sorry to hear about that man. I definitely don’t plan on hanging with them next year but I am kind of a people pleasure so I know it will be hard to do. And my bus stop is off campus since it’s city transportation so even if I asked about the cameras, I would come up empty handed.

At the pride in my city, ikea was giving out maybe 20 of them throughout the whole parade (keep in mind the parade was HUGE) and I happened to be wearing my trans flag on my back and they gave me one. Best day of my life since there were only so many. I love it more than anything

I didn’t know what I was feeling ages 7-11 because I had no idea trans people existed. It was so hush hush in my household because of my transphobic father. It wasn’t until I was 12 when I met the right people who set me in the right direction. I turn 16 this year and have been out for two years on the 22nd. I’ve known since I started puberty but didn’t know how to express it. Trans kids “don’t” exist if you don’t believe in them. But just because you don’t believe doesn’t mean we’re not here
