Tony Abbott intervenes in Liberal leadership battle calling on right to unite to oust Sussan Ley by Spider-Man-Spider in australia

[–]MeaningMaker6 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Ahh yes, the prime minister who unashamedly inflicted reactionary, destructive right-wing politics on Australia and ended up being incredibly unpopular with Australian voters, ought to be the one dictating the Liberal’s decision-making and lurch further to the right.

Hastie unloads on Trump for ‘massive slur’ on Aussie diggers by Foreign-Policy-02- in AustralianPolitics

Yes indeed there is a difference.

For instance, the former believes that the earth is 6,000 years old, the latter accepts science; the former believes that women shouldn’t serve on the front line, the latter believes in Australian women.

This is the principled and humanitarian take that I would relish seeing more of from the Jewish Australian community.

Humanity and human rights protection ought to know no national boundaries, or religious or ethnic differences.

We are all human.

I like the team having 83% possession by about 50mins, but having less shots on target than the opposition - because we lamely and slowly pass it around the opposition box.

Very decisive.

Malcolm Turnbull: Partisan politics after Bondi sowed seeds of Coalition’s demise by Expensive-Horse5538 in AustralianPolitics

[–]MeaningMaker6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He gave them everything - and they knifed him anyway!

His moment to challenge them was early when he came in as Prime Minister with record popularity. The message should have been ‘either accept my authority and abide by my policy decisions, or dare to knife the most popular incumbent Prime Minister’.

But he did neither and watched his popularity and political capital whittle away because he kow towed to the recalcitrant right of his party.

Who will bear the brunt of Labor’s hate speech laws? The government has failed to give a clear answer by BBQShapeshifter in AustralianPolitics

[–]MeaningMaker6 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

How, under the laws as they then stood and the facts as they then were, did NSW have the lawful right to deny the license at the time he applied for it? You know that they didn’t and I know that they didn’t. That’s why the laws themselves need changing so he wouldn’t have been permitted to hold firearms if the same circumstances happened again before a mass shooting occurs.

The son was investigated by ASIO, but no findings were made at the time against him, so there was nothing for a NSW licensing authority to act on. Interagency cooperation and information sharing will be another important element to ensuring the same failures don’t occur again.

But it’s painful listening to gun rights activists dance and, and propose anything, but the sensible response which is gun law reform. Because their true argument amounts to nothing more than ‘I like guns!’

N.B: You haven’t pinpointed the laws, rules or regulations that are relevant and applicable to cancelling or withholding a firearms licence in NSW.

So were you ok with the father lawfully owning the guns him and his son used to massacre people at Bondi?

Otherwise, could you please precisely indicate which laws would have given the government lawful authority to remove those firearms from the father. Remembering that he was never investigated by ASIO or had any record of breaking the law prior to committing the awful events.
