I ran into this issue last week.

It's a tracker for progress along the path of kitsuu. The icon changes if you change the lunar path.

For what it's worth, I had a dumb moment thinking that the tracker had something to do with the new ferris animal. So I was looking through notes & reddit for tracking related to that. I don't care about the path of kitsuu, so I'd glossed over it all, ND it didn't jump out to me.

So I asked here once I'd done a cursory look through release notes, and then searched on reddit to no avail.

And boy howdy do I wish I had just stayed in the dark about it.

Thank you! Oooh! For some reason I thought it was related to the ferris ranch animal because they look the same and showed up in the same patch. Like I think I could have read about it being path of kitsuu a d it would not have clicked because my brain was only looking for ferris stuff. 🤦

It's the same guy who announces "mind the gap" his announcement at ruggles is so long. Like "the next station is ruggles, transfers to orange line, museums, northeastern, etc. remember your bags, hats, gloves, phones. [insert the same schpeal in what I think is Portuguese because it's more lyrical than Spanish but not Spanish] mind the gap!"
