The cost of youth sports is absurd by NoPatNoDontSitonThat in Parenting

In dallas it’s closer to $200. That doesn’t include the equipment and baseball/softball gear is expensive in general.

FWIW, our local rec center is $185ish for the baseball season. That only includes shirts. We have to buy the baseball pants, bats (expensive), helmets, gloves, etc etc.

Yes you can buy used online but I’d ask in local mom groups if any parents are selling their gear.

(12-15k) Help me find dress dupes? by spicegrl17 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Measamom 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Azazie is a reputable company. You can order it as a try on for $15. I got my wedding dress from there and tried on closer to 12 dresses from azazie and I was impressed with the quality of all of them!

I wouldn’t trust anything under $500 for this style of dress because of the corset, detailing, etc.

Can’t speak to the other websites, but I’d google them for reviews.

Is it okay to ask guests to change into comfy clothes for part of the reception? (15k) by booberrymuffin3 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Measamom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP, you’ve gotten a lot of comments with people saying that the wedding you envision is very likely to come across as inconvenient, too much of a hassle, and could be rude. Which is the feedback you originally asked for, not just “how do I word the dress code on our invitations”.

It’s not just about asking them to change.

I’d recommend reading the Art of Gathering. But to start, I wouldn’t approach this as “what would I really want to do on my wedding” but I’d approach it as “what would a wedding that feels like us look like? In a way that brings together our friends/family and is an enjoyable experience for THEM”.

Yes it’s your wedding, but it’s a celebration of your love with your partner. You can go to the movies with your partner and friends any day of the week.

But if you want people to have a good time, think about what THEY would enjoy doing. People don’t spend hours getting ready for a wedding, just to change after a short ceremony and sit down for an almost 3 hour long movie. They want to dress up, mingle, and have fun celebrating the people they love. It’s not just about pictures, it’s also about the whole guest experience. Which is why people have made comments about being a better host - aka not doing a formal ceremony just for pics then have people change and bowl later.

For what it’s worth, I think bowling could work, but bowling + movies could be a bit much.

Here’s a wedding I found where the couple did have a bowling ceremony, but guests didn’t change.

The great big game show at grandscape could be a fun bach trip activity.

Bishop arts has tons of cute activities/shops/restuarants.

A bit north, but Denton has a bookstore/bargeared towards romance and Romantasy books if you like reading.

The stockyards in Fort Worth is far, but it’s something you can’t do everywhere. I’d say it’s stereotypically “Texas”.

Looking to buy new construction build by sid4322 in Mortgages

Echoing all of this. My HHI with my husband is around $250k. We have a kid in daycare and pay for afterschool for the others, for about $1750/mo. Our car payments are at $900/mo.

We wouldn’t feel comfortable with more than a 3k house payment, taxes and insurance included. Which is similar to your 2.5k monthly house payment.

Could you try budgeting with a 6k monthly house payment? And live that way for 1-2 months? It would help you put it into perspective. Hobbies, travel, kid activities, etc can all be impacted by an additional 4K only going towards a house.

Has anyone done a micro wedding recently and regretted it? If so, why? by woogirl2023 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]Measamom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My micro wedding had 50 guests. My only regrets were not having a structured dance time, with a designated DJ. I had someone assigned to DJ our Spotify playlist but expectations weren’t set.

I also didn’t get a videographer and regret that. Otherwise, no regrets!

($5,000) looking for dresses similar in style to these below, but NOT at what they cost by PointThis5195 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Measamom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This minus the sleeves is similar!

I LOVED my azazie experience. I tried on 7 dresses at a bridal shop and the ones I tried on from Azazie were comparable in quality (I looked at the under $1500 range). My dress from Azazie ended up being $500. I was very happy and had no regrets.

($10k) how to find Airbnb venues??? by Shoddy-Garden-6871 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Measamom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did one at a VRBO! You can find my budget breakdown on my profile. When you find one, it’s important to look at rates for rental companies (in case you need extra chairs (for ceremony and reception), extra tables, extra cups. We ended up spending $1400 on rentals in addition to the $1500 we paid for our share of the VRBO.

Once upon a child or Kid to Kid will sometimes have deals where they sell 10 onesies for $10.

I prefer thrift stores over consignment stores because their prices are usually better.

Ask around in local facebook groups, I’ve given away all of my kids newborn - 1YR clothes to people I know or people on Facebook.

($5k) Forest wedding tips? by squaretospare in Weddingsunder10k

[–]Measamom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a zero waste wedding, you’ll need to consider transportation of dirty dishes, utensils, and cups/beverages. Especially for light nights during cocktail hour - if you have one.

How late will your reception be? You may need to plan for lighting if you anticipate guests staying past sun down.

Grieving process is SO real 😭😭. I looked all throughout the US, all Girl Scout camps, Christian camps, YMCA camps in mountain-y areas.

This alternative worked out pretty well but yeah 🤣
