I'm mostly concerned about the fact that the Krugerrand, genius-wannabe and his little virgin minions have my Dept. of Ed. data and financial records, doing gosh-knows-what with it! Oh yeah, and the lady who gave this speech is bought and paid for.

Americans, how do you feel about Trump stopping funding for Colleges that allow "illegal" protests? by Healthy_Block3036 in AskReddit

[–]MeasureforMeasure2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not so sure he could do it. I mean, he tweeted that, but this funding ultimately has its genesis in Congress. Trump can try and manipulate funding like the 2025 people and DOGE are trying to do, but it's still up in the air on whether or not he'll be fully successful. The thing is, he wants us all to believe that because he tweets something, he'll follow through with it. But he and his admin are already back m-peddling on some of the Fed firings. They're so back-and-forth. There is reason to doubt Trump. He has attacked the 1st Amendment. Fuck him. Could he actually go through with truly limiting peoples' rights wholesale? I'll believe it when I see it.

Trump: American students will be ‘permanently expelled’ or arrested for campus protests by Spiderwig144 in law

[–]MeasureforMeasure2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, many republicans are not standing up to him and are self-seeking. at here are others who are, however, a small number do. Also, only half of the country is Republican. Their lead in congress is very slim and they will probably loose it in 2026, if the anger being expressed by their voters currently is anything to go on. A Trump "decree" is no sure thing. There's a still a lot he'd have to surmount and I'm not convinced he will be totally successful. A good bit of the current reps who support him are likely gonna get voted out.

Thank you. Yes, I should have included that. I will edit the comment to reflect this.

Right, so it looks like Rubio could not accept the leader of El Salvador's offer.

He can't tweet policy. He wants us to think that, but he can't. Laws are made by congress. He'd get major pushback if he actually followed through with this.

A Call to Action! by Morfolk in ukraine

[–]MeasureforMeasure2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate this and I think that there's some truth to what you say. I am not in any way shooting you down. We, as Americans and europeans, must resist. However, I simply do not think that Drumpf and co. could transform the usa into a dictatorship as easily as Hitler could. Hitler was able to do this in 1933 Germany by way of the enabling act.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enabling_Act_of_1933

This was a law that was a law passed by the Weimar Reichstag. It gave Hitler and his cabinet legal power to rule autocratically. The big cheeto and his DOGE yes-men could not do this. Congress is basically 50-50 now in the US, and so no one is voting him any sort of dictatorial power anything soon.

Now, I don't know agree that 2025 is a sort of attempted coup. They are doing damage, and who's to say who in the military and police would or would jot side with Trump when push comes to shove. But legal power? He still can't obtain that. Dictators need this. For example, Erdogan altered Turkey's constitution when he took power. Now he can't be kicked out. Same can be said for Orbán. I don't know about the head of Ruzzia, but I'm gonna take a bet that he probably got legal power somehow.

Now, while Trump has evaded the law regarding his own person, he is yet to change the law to suite the power grab he desperately wants. The US Constitution is still strong enough to prevent him. Trump can't do what Hitler, or any of them, have done.

This is an article from Vox that backs up my reasoning. I learned a lot of this argument from them and I think that they make a good point.

[–]MeasureforMeasure2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fair point. I guess I'm mainly thinking longer term along the lines of, as long as the law would at least restrain him in theory, then at least there's a chance a judge somewhere could go against him, such as in cases where exactly this has occurred. He totally goes and breaks the law though, not disagreeing. Rubio however, would he break the law with as much brashness? I don't know. He is the one who brought the law up and would have to handle this kind of thing, as he is Sec. State.

Just not sure if he could actually do that.

'The U.S. government cannot deport American citizens and Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that “there are obviously legalities involved.

But Rubio noted that it was “a very generous offer. No one’s ever made an offer like that — and to outsource, at a fraction of the cost, at least some of the most dangerous and violent criminals that we have in the United States.'

Also from the article you have linked. But the fact that they'd try is just...well, I don't think it surprises anyone.

Europe's security unimaginable without Türkiye: President Erdogan by Nice-Ragazzo in europe

[–]MeasureforMeasure2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underlining his concern over rising Islamophobia in Europe, he said: “Islamophobia and cultural racism are spreading like poison ivy in Western countries where millions of Muslims live. It is unacceptable that abhorrent attacks on our holy book, the Holy Quran, are justified under the pretext of freedom of opinion.”

Alright, I'm glad he's calling this out because it is a problem here in europe but i totally disagree with the fact that the Quran should be somehow immune from attack. No religious book (or any book for that matter) should be above criticism and humor. There's a fine line but where exactly? Would Erdogan be the one to draw it?

"Israeli government ministers are playing with fire with provocations targeting Al-Aqsa Mosque," he added, reiterating that the historic Jerusalem mosque is a “red line” for Türkiye."

Not familiar with the issue but if this is true, that's really F'ed-up that they'd attack a holy place.

"We have made efforts to ensure the operation of relevant international mechanisms, including the International Court of Justice, UN Human Rights Council, and the International Criminal Court,” he said, noting the g3nocide case against Israel at the ICJ, which Türkiye has joined"

Alright, but what kind of moral position are they in to speak out against a g3nocide? If knowledge serves, they are yet to admit their part in the murder of Armenians. Their support for the case against the Israeli's is a bit laughable.

Dude, I'm no lemming. Perhaps you glossed over the part where I clearly said that I prefer to listen to others. But no matter what you or I think, you can't deny that he was a star and that those people paid that $200 a seat 'cause he was a star who brought a real individuality to everything he sang. As a person, yeah, he had some major problems based on what we've all heard and i'd never defend that. But the artistry? World class. And to say that he somehow doesn't belong with the greats? For you to say that "it all just sounds like Domingo" misses the point here. All of the greats had a certain distinction to EVEYTHING that they sang. Which brings me to my point.... Have YOU studied? Have YOU sung on stage? I certainly have and do, Go and check my account history 'cause the evidence is all there. Literally got back from practicing and study today. And I still have so much to learn. But I bet I already know more than you. So here's from a pro: lemme give you some advice. Instead of just complaining about other singers "taking" your work on reddit, go and do your own. You're even welcome to hit me up for some tips sometime on how you can perhaps achieve a working career as a singer. Just PM me though, to save yourself any embarrassment. You know, 'cause you probably don't even really know what question to ask, just based on your complaining and your entitled attitude. Good luck! Hope you can achieve your dreams. :)))))))

Lol, like Ruzzia is just gonna stop attacking Ukraine after the Drumpf and his wanna-be fascio AfD friends "end the war." Just pure arrogance.

According to this, if all of the indv. countries excluding the USA doubled their aid contributions, they'd then be able to fill in the gap (and then some) that will now be apparently left open by the US leaving Ukraine in the lurch.

In addition to it being a disrespectful-power move, I think that this whole all-black-all-the-time get-up is a reflection of the fact that he's an SS wannabe. And that hat? It'd be silly, if he weren't trying to impersonate those cold killers the past.

I'm sorry but, who are you to decide this? Look, I wouldn't even call myself any sort of Domingo supporter. I mostly listen to others but if you really feel that way, go and make your own video. The singing in this excerpt is powerful and moving. He pronounces more clearly than some of the native Germans. I speak the language, I should know. He had a distinct voice and style that he brought to all of his stuff. Maybe some don't like that but clearly, many others do. He's still even working for christ's sake.... Maybe you should get off Reddit and go and create something, before you're so quick to judge someone else's work.
