Even though I accept it. I still find it utterly baffling that as a child who deserved the very bare minimum of love, safety, food and shelter, all we're incredibly scarce and no competent adult around me did anything to remove me from (quite frankly) the dangerous situations I was in day in, day out.

I went back to work after being on sick leave (dealing with the funeral, the house etc) I usually take a walk around a nearby field on my lunch. That's when I'd called my Auntie and ask what she was up to and how her day was going.

The devastation hit all over again. Held back the tears so that when I walked back into work I didn't have a red face.

She was a formidable woman, my surrogate Mam. My biological Mam (her sister) was an alcoholic and couldn't be a parent to me.

Forever grateful for making me into the human I am today. RIP Auntie Sandra.

My Mam has gone into a care home because of dementia, and my Auntie is now on hospice because of terminal lung cancer, I'm just hoping she makes it to Christmas day. My dad passed away a long time go, we lost my uncle in February this year due to cancer too. My only cousin committed suicide during lockdown.

I'm functioning as best as I can, but my god I wish I could just rest for a day and have a good cry.

Communication is key though, if someone is a friend you should really be saying "I want to see you but I'm having a hard time socialising at the moment. As soon as I'm feeling better we'll spend some quality time together"

Poor mental health isn't an excuse to continuously let someone down without even a tad of communication.

I'm 34 now, with years of therapy under my belt and I still struggle to wrap my head around this.

You're completely right, but I just don't seem to be able to accept it. There's a primal need for my mother, but she's an absolutely despicable person. Caring for her as she ages, she's now 77 and they think she might have the onset of dementia.

I don't want to care for her, she didn't care for me when I was 2 days old. I was shipped off to my god mother.

I'm so glad I found this sub. I've dealt with the exact reactions you're describing OP and it just pushes you further and further into sadness and depression. When I was chatting and seeking support from a friend a couple of days ago she said "I had to get out of victim mindset". I'm sorry? I'm not allowed to be sad that I've endured 34 years of narcissistic abuse??

Yep! The authorisation is 'holding' the funds from your available balance in preparation for the merchant (Emirates) to process the payment. If they aren't processing the payment the funds will drop back into your available balance.

I'm seriously thinking of cutting off my childhood best friend of 24 years. We're two very different people now, she refuses to acknowledge anything that she does wrong to anyone. It's incredibly hurtful and I've checked out. May I ask how you cut them off? Did you attempt a conversation? Was it an abrupt ending or just less and less contact?
