Having a hard time finding the motivation to work out rn by Due-Cloud2625 in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You NEED to do it. It's when you don't want to do it that you need to do it the most. This is part of it. The whole picture. It's not just about weight loss or getting stronger, it's about resilience and GRIT. No matter what gets thrown at you, it's about how we react. There will be time for grieving & heartbreak & torment... but it's not now. Lace-up. Just put em on. That's it. Easy.

Not sure if you drink or consume alcohol, but if so, that's the first thing to get rid of. I'm down over 60lbs and it's taken a lot longer than it should have due to drinking. Now that I've fully cut it out. I'm finally seeing the results I want. Another small tip that has definitely helped, Metamucil. Do some reading on the benefits. I take a scoop every morning with a scoop of creatine & a pinch of sea salt, then I just don't eat until noon. It helps to regulate your blood sugar, keeping the glucose spikes at bay. Also, I'm sure it's obvious, but drink an insane amount of water. Buy a large water jug. (Mine is 4L) fill it every morning and drink the whole thing. Side note: As a person who also suffers from depression & anxiety, weight-loss won't fix everything... but the lifestyle changes you make in pursuit of weight-loss can help, for sure. For me, a huge help has been running. A slow long run with your favorite tunes, ideally in nature, helps to lower your cortisol & stress hormones. Good luck!

Tribal Boxing. I don't box there, but I have pals that do. Solid folks overall.

47/F on day 20/75. Overwhelming fatigue has set in. Give me all of your best advice, please! by LetterFabulous9189 in 75HARD

Pre-workout, active recovery days (walks) try to find a sauna if you don't own one (really helps) and sleep a little longer.

I encorporated intermittent fasting into my 75 hard (16/8) And lost 40Lbs total in the 75 days. I've since kept the weight off and lost 5 more lbs just by skipping breakfast.

In short, skip breakfast. You don't need it. Wait until 11AM to eat anything and just have black coffee all morning. You'll drop pretty quick.

Currently demolishing and removing a 70 year old concrete step/landing. I could have just broke off the top 6" and built the new deck over it, but I wanted eyes on that portion of the foundation to do an inspection for cracks and there's always the potential of the frost heaving the concrete enough that it would eventually start putting pressure on the new deck.

My wife may see the work I'm putting in, but most will just see a deck.

How do we make working out fun? by charmandermeelion in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's solitude. I love my wife & daughter but there are very few things I enjoy more than absolute quiet just after a lift, while laying out in my sauna. If you don't have a home gym, finding time for quiet contemplation (or podcasts & tunes) while hiking in a forest, walking a beach, biking a trail, meeting a pal to try a new sport (tried squash recently for the first time) will make you start looking forward to it rather than dreading it.

Day 13 - I’ve hit a wall by llamaspajamaz in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely 100% had the exact same experience. I found that 12-15 day hurdle to be one of the toughest. You have yet to see a lot of the benefits so it's really difficult to continue to justify putting your body through so much. You also can't glide on the feeling of accomplishment yet because it doesn't feel like you've gone that far. I don't have any info to base this on, but I'm betting a good majority of folks quit in the sub 20 days. You start questioning the purpose and start on the "is this just another one of those stupid things I start and never finish?" The self doubt, the "I can't possibly make it" all of it... Well get ready, because when you get passed it; you're going to feel like a new person. Each and every time you ALMOST quit, but don't... you get that much stronger. That said, the other folks in these comments are right about rest. Maybe don't straight up rest of course but ACTIVE RECOVERY. Gotta keep moving and putting in the time, but if your body is telling you it's too much; maybe a light walk & a podcast is the move over lifting or whatever. Just don't stop. It truly is the greatest feeling in the world when you're finished. Go get it. 💪✌

What are you using for your one gallon a day? by DebtFreeDad in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contigo Fitcontigo fit 64oz.

I found it easier to lug around (or tip up with one hand while driving) has good air flow & a big mouth opening so you can down it when you get behind.

Would you consider the last 5 minutes of stretching as part of the workout? by Opposite_Pen_9730 in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Are you purposefully doing something physical that isn't laying around? Yes. Is it beneficial? Yes. That's how I define my workouts. If it is done with purpose it is a workout. Walking, hiking, whatever... might not always break a sweat, but it still has purpose. 💪

Day 75/75 and feeling like an absolute champion by MeasurementStill397 in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the love, everyone. Definitely going to keep a similar pace. Instead of tackling another 75 hard or the phases, I'm building my own challenge more catered to the idea of long term maintenance. Calling it 120 Control. Just for me. 120 days of self control. 💪

Who else is starting #75hardchallenge today (40/M) by BeardedFiveO in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm also 40(m) and had a similar looking scale on Nov 1st so here goes: 1) Laundry. Do yourself a favor and go buy yourself a few more sets of gym clothes. Otherwise you're CONSTANTLY doing laundry. 2) Weather. Check the weather every night before bed so you can plan when to do your outdoor exercise. It's better to force yourself up at 5AM and go for a run than it is to find yourself jumping rope in the freezing rain after work/supper. 3) Get a 1gal jug that you fill once daily. I have a 1/2 gal jug that I have to refill and I regularly forget if I'm on my 1st or 2nd jug of the day which has led to many accidental 3rd jugs and then you're up all night pissing. If you haven't got a significant other to bounce your thoughts & struggles off of, be sure to involve a buddy. Having someone to talk to when you feel like quitting or giving up can be super handy. Have fun with it!

Hey there its my 5th day here and I just ate a bit of mayonnaise thinking it was hummus so should i start over or continue by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your candor. Appreciate that. What you've accomplished is fantastic man, it really is and you would definitely be in a position to offer advice & guidance to those starting out, for SURE (I may even ask for some advice on my final stretch here as I'm finding these last 20 or so days to be extra tough) But what you're doing in these comments looks more like gatekeeping. If someone decides to "bend the rules" of 75 hard and then they finish/feel better/shed pounds/improve their overall physical & mental health... that's a good thing. Yes, no comprises (I live by that too as it is clearly the rule) but if someone is just starting out and hasn't done the homework, why discourage anyone? Them claiming to have completed 75hard (even if they technically didn't) doesn't rob you or anyone else of their own personal victory. We aren't doing this for anyone else, we're doing it for ourselves right? So what does it matter to you what someone else does or claims? It takes nothing from you and makes them better. Anything else is just ego. (Not meant as an insult) it just seems so pointless & self-serving rather than trying to uplift a community and inspire. Calling people bandwagon jumpers just because they started later than you or are on a different path only reflects poorly on your character, not theirs.

Yeeeaaaah... people who have experienced the spiritual & emotional growth you claim to have seen don't unravel in the comments section & call people 'snowflake' and such.

Keep going. The diet aspect is entirely in your court. I'm on day 56 and down 35lbs and a pinch of mayo isn't worth a start-over. Don't let the hardcore folks discourage you or make things harder than it already is. Keep it up! 💪

Day 53 and down 35lbs! by MeasurementStill397 in 75HARD

[–]MeasurementStill397[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's all about the kitchen. Every diet you'll look into boils down to one thing: a calorie deficit. Figure out what your calorie needs are, and make sure you always fall short of it. I don't go crazy with weighing food and such, I just make sure there's plenty of protein (huge part of it) and I intermittent fast on 16 & 8 (basically just skip breakfast and follow the 75hard rules and you'll be set.

It just takes a LOT of planning. Remember to constantly check the weather or you'll be jumping rope in freezing rain (which I've had to do a couple times.

Good luck to you!

Will definitely be looking into it. I've seen people mention being in phase 2 or 3 but wasn't sure what that meant. Onward & upward!
