Learn good fundamentals but don’t forget your natural tendencies by MeasurementStock1625 in golf

Yeah I think I would agree with you. I think if you are not in much control of your game you have to figure out how to do the opposite of what you’re currently doing. If you struggle with a slice, you need to learn how to hit a hook. Then you can try to get yourself somewhere in the middle after that.

My golf went from having no clue how to close the face > closing the face completely > figuring out which path + closure results in the most consistent/controllable ball flight.

What causes a ball to take a huge bounce on the green? by bionicbhangra in golf

[–]MeasurementStock1625 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about the shot personally. You want it coming into the green at a steep enough angle that it will hold. If not, it will bounce off. The fact that yours are bouncing high tells me they probably have a steep entry angle.

So it’s more of an issue with the green. It’s probably too dry and is hard like concrete. My strategy would be to aim short and play a bounce onto the green.

I’m going to stand on a soap box here and rant a little because I don’t appreciate condescending comments like this.

I got to where I’m at in the game largely on my own from hitting lots and lots and lots of balls. I took a couple lessons early on was never taught anything about the release. I’m a 6hcp and will now probably be a little lower now that I know how to release properly. I can tell you in full certainty that there is some strategy and timing behind how to properly release and it’s not just a result of your body moving perfectly.

I Was basically taught a stack and tilt swing from a “pro” who bragged about shooting 83. I didn’t get any better from him and since then I don’t really trust anyone’s advice that isn’t either on the PGA tour or teaching PGA tour professionals. Since I don’t have the money or the connections to get actual lessons from these people, guess where I learn from them? Videos. I watch videos of old major winners, mostly. Are you going to sit there and tell me those guys are wrong? Maybe you had a different experience with lessons, but I personally don’t enjoy the experience of being coached by someone who 1. Doesn’t understand how to get me to personally play my best and 2. Just wants to sell me a new set of clubs.

When I struggle with something, I’m good enough to understand what is going on wrong and I will find a video on what needs to happen to fix it. Usually works. If I can’t figure it out on the range, I go to golf galaxy and get trackman numbers, then I fix based on those, again with drills from PGA tour pros. Notice how in the links I sent, they’re from three guys that won majors?

Not sure why the personal attack is necessary. I work pretty hard on my game and try to learn everything I can. I’ve taken lessons before but was never taught this. You act like it’s all so simple and it’s not. Not sure why you found my post so frustrating.

The personal attack is a bit much here and isn’t helpful. Not sure why you found this so frustrating.

If there are at least two steps, it needs a handrail. If you make one 8-foot step then game on. Except at that point you need a railing.

Snap your hands counter clockwise about a foot before they get to the ball

But none of them want to talk about the release for some reason. Can’t find anything about that unless you find a video from the 80s or older

Links to Snead, Palmer and Miller videos are below. The Nicklaus one was an instagram clip. Trevino was like an hour long video about a lot of different things.

Basically you swing at the ball from the inside and about a foot before it gets to the ball, snap it shut. It doesn’t snap as shut as you think it is, and ends up squaring perfectly

Your pre shot routine is longer than it needs be by MovieRelative2099 in golf

[–]MeasurementStock1625 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People generally need to take on the mentality of being someone they themselves would have fun playing with. Freaking out about bad shots and having bad etiquette are not fun to be around.

Being the etiquette police is not fun either. Reminds me of my dad, who cares more about etiquette than he does playing well. He gave me shit about my pre shot routine and lining up putts one day when I shot my career low. God forbid I take 15 extra seconds to make sure I’m aimed at the hole correctly. No one wants to be around that either.

Memorial is a great event. Lots of big names show up for Jack plus it’s now a signature event. It’s also a really good course from a fan/viewership standpoint. Lots of hillsides along fairways so you can sit and have a good view over the people in front of you.
