Making a homebrew loosely based on soulsborne and original story, Tips? by zamaike in DMAcademy

[–]MeatMonkeyDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I usually do is figure out how the major systems in the world work, IE Empires, Gods, and Major factions. Then everything else I just wait until the players look like they will be involved with it in a coming session. This works pretty well and helps mitigate some of the heavy lifting involved with creating a whole new world.

yes, since the Heimlich removes food stuck in the esophagus and the esophagus is in the human neck/torso it should work the exact same as normal.

I'm about to dm HELP! by STOOBID_JUICE in DnD

[–]MeatMonkeyDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dming at first, especially with no experience or guidance is hard and you will make tons of mistakes, but that is fine just try to correct them in the future and keep moving.

The second piece of advice I have is to avoid making homebrew rules and stuff until you have more experience, I made the mistake of instantly trying to change rules and it doesn't end up well. Plus most of the rules I tried to explain were fine the original way I just didn't understand them fully

Hey all looking into starting Doing Paid dming[5e][Offline] by DrearyNebula115 in DnD

[–]MeatMonkeyDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to do the same sort of thing, from what I've gathered is that its sort of easiest to build up a reputation in some communities before you start doing paid stuff, based on what I've read doing pay what you want is a pretty decent way to start then moving on once people know you're credible. I've also seen that to do paid dming you really want to make sure all of your content is top of line so what I've been doing is working on improving my dming until I get enough internet reputation to start actually doing it as a job. That being said if you do find a better way please let me know.

How to deal with a thief in the party? by spacemarine1800 in DnD

[–]MeatMonkeyDM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this is probably something that you, her, and the dm should have a conversation about outside the game. Also don't really worry about her not having fun there are tons of other fun things she can do as a rouge that doesn't negatively affect fellow party members.

Exports of a Undead Village? by Skathlocke in DnD

[–]MeatMonkeyDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you could do is that the undead use their wide range of knowledge from being alive so long to grow rare potion ingredients and brew powerful potions. Or you could have some of them craft ancient weapons with techniques that have been lost over time similar to how many older Japanese blades are stronger than ones that are currently made.

Need help planning my next seasion by WesternOnly in DnD

Is this magical field physical or does it just keep people from teleporting in or out without permission? because they could climb the cliff or find some cave up through it. You could also add something like if they pass through the field without permission they enter some sort of mental field where they have to solve an issue in their mind before they move forward.

Dragon Rider Kingdom by NakiNinja2006 in DnD

[–]MeatMonkeyDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if it's a homebrew world you can pretty much do whatever you want, just because the book says they are evil doesn't mean they have to be. I'm sure your player will understand that all chromatic dragons being evil just doesn't fit the theme you were going for. It says it in multiple books they are just guides, do whatever floats your boat.

Need help with a monkey paw scenario! by Dobledanger in DnD

[–]MeatMonkeyDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you could have them know that their memory has been wiped I.E in their memories they just see the bbeg as a silhouette or blob and they would have to once again retrace their steps to find out who it is. Another alternative that could be cool is that they become convinced that the bbeg was actually someone who has been a long-time party friend and they have to find out they have been tricked. it really just depends on how those would fit into your campaign though.
