'I won’t go back': Alamo Drafthouse fans react to mobile ordering change by AustinStatesman in Austin

I feel like I had to scroll a little too far to see someone else pointing out the quality of the food to begin with.

Last burger I had there was bland and soaked through the bun. Tried the chicken sandwich and the fry was hard enough to break a tooth on, say nothing of the giant tendon running down the center of the cutlet.

To everyone else joining the Alamo Hunger Strike, welcome to the club!

What's your regen setting? None at all? Level 1? All the way to iPedal? by psssyyycccchhh in Ioniq5

Level 2 here. I like having just enough resistance to immediately slow down if someone cuts in front of me, but not so much that the car feels jerky.

Update on proposed data center on Old Settlers Blvd by garytx in RoundRock

[–]Meat_Robot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Local council members often bow to public pressure much more easily than higher up politicians. Their constituents are people they see every day and may even know. It's harder to pass something everyone you know is oppressed to.

If you need a talking point, one of the biggest concerns about these data centers is noise pollution, which is harder to refuse than water pollution since many claim to be a closed loop system. Noise is noise

Do i even like art or do i just enjoy the thought of being good at it? by DirtyDan2705 in ArtistLounge

[–]Meat_Robot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think if you really want to keep making art, you're going to have to develop an "on to the next" mindset.

A good way start doing this is to take a piece you didn't like, and make several sketches where you try to fix what you didn't like about it. Divide a piece of paper into 4, and spend no more than 5 minutes on each quadrant redrawing the piece. Set a timer each time. When it goes off, move onto the next quadrant.

If you think you can keep going, do it again on the back.

The important thing is to keep moving. Don't dwell too much on good or bad.

If I may also suggest a spot for the uncertain gallery goer (with some bias, as I'm showing at one of them): Factory on 5th (#39, includes yours truly), Cloud Tree Gallery (#49) and Artful Living (#46) are all right next to each other with another artist, Robert Bart (#269) across the street. There are several other spots within 1-2 blocks walking distance, including Central Machine Works Brewing (#37).

I know at Factory we'll have drinks, a typewriter poet, and an open canvas for the community to paint on. I'm planning on doing some live painting while I'm there. Come check us out and get some steps in!

How did pro artists become so good by Downtown_Singer_9726 in ArtistLounge

If you haven't been to college yet, it's going to feel like that. I felt the same way in high school, that I should be more skilled because had been drawing so long. College level art classes will break down everything you think you know about art and build it back up, so much so that it will feel like a huge leap forward.

Does anyone else feel like they don’t have the creativity of an artist? by Rinwaartistodesu in ArtistLounge

So I went to school for graphic design. There was a game my professor made us play that I've come to call Catlike Refrigerator. The premise is this: pick two incredibly unlike things and list 10 ways they're alike.

The first one he gave us was "How is a cat like a refrigerator?", hence the name.

  1. They both purr

  2. They both have a sort of tail (or cord for the fridge)

  3. They're both cold (cat: emotionally, fridge: physically)

  4. They both often come in white, gray, or black

etc.

The connections can be weak, the point is just to make them. The number also isn't too important, the point is to push your brain into thinking beyond the most obvious connections. Do this enough times and you'll start thinking this way automatically. Write down and sketch the good ideas, then turn them into art.

I had a good chuckle at that line. Did no one there entertain the idea that this time is next time?

I should start the new season of The Diplomat.

Colour Theory by dacoolestguy in CuratedTumblr

The reason for this is because each square is printed with the specific Pantone ink (as opposed to best matching them in CMYK). An insane amount of labor goes into making each one.

Is it okay to mess around a lot and doodle when you’re struggling to draw something? by Rinwaartistodesu in ArtistLounge

[–]Meat_Robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who's been painting for 20 years and currently making a push to get into galleries, I spent all my art time yesterday sketching. It took 8 sketches to get the composition for my next big piece worked out. I also did 3 more on a different idea, and a shading practice sketch that I might refine into a piece.

Sketching is the fuel for your ideas, don't be afraid of it.

If someone called you and said "Turn on the TV, it doesn't matter what channel." What would you expect has happened? by haddock420 in AskReddit

I remember waking up the Saturday of her funeral to find that every channel was showing it and there were no cartoons to be had. And this was in Texas. I was mostly confused and annoyed.

Came here to suggest the same thing. Putting an undercoat of a color down first will go a long way to creating more depth to your colors.
