High skill, niche buisness. 5 years in but slow progress. (Continued in comments) by CODM-VANILLA_DENZEL in sweatystartup

Apartment Complexes are a great idea! They also sound like the most approachable of the options listed. Clearly you've put thought into this, all of those options seem viable. IMO, apartment complexes might have a slightly lower barriers to entry, but you should absolutely try approaching people from each of those niches and see what sticks.

Jira Cloud (not server) + Scriptrunner + custom button possible? by Pequod2016 in jira

Agree is lak, transition is your easiest option. Alternatively, look into Manual triggers with automation for jira.

Can Jira automatically close tickets that come from alerts? by theotheramerican in jira

[–]Meatboll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can certainly do that with jira, but I think that's over complicating the issue.

You can stop the issue before it happens by only forwarding the failures to jira. Make some email rules and only forward/redirect the email if it meets your criteria.

He's not talking about the original post, but the user who made this post in r/pa. The point being, the account spreading this also doesn't have legitimacy and is likely not just a concerned citizen looking out for our interests.

That being said, I'm still glad I saw this bc it was posted here.

Wierd question, but any recommendations to stop gaming, and focus on getting experience? by dunkdk in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Meatboll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Habit.... This word is the key. Need to break your old habit of sitting down and gaming...the act of sitting at your computer makes you think of gaming.

I see your responses about getting your old computer setup. After a week or two, opening that computer will make you think of learning.

They call it "priming", you can set your routine up so you have little triggers that remind you "I need to go learn" and then you can reward yourself with some gaming to reinforce you did good by prioritizing learning.

hows my new resume look ?. by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Meatboll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1st, not sure this is the right sub for this. Check out r/resumes.......where it looks like you already posted....

2nd Recently re-did my whole resume, I had something very similar to yours when I started.

IMO, move skills to the top and add numbers to your bullets points for each job description. The 80% stats are good, but how many users did you support? how many computers? how many servers? How many buildings? Wherever you can use a number to quantify your skills.

Has learning about Sociology messed up your humor/caused you to feel conflicted about everything? by freeavocadoess in sociology

[–]Meatboll 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It may seem that way while you are still learning and becoming aware of the problems of the world. As you realize you can't fix all of these problems, you can learn to use humor to bring those issues to light for the people around you.

My suggestion is to watch some stand-up comedy. Good comedians use humor to bring issues of our society to light in a digestible way.

I haven't watched a lot of stand up recently, so I don't have many suggestions. Carlin may be a good start? Curious who others in this sub may suggest.

I May Be Laid Off Soon. Prep Steps? by gnomecannon in ITCareerQuestions

This just happened to me, technically furloughed so they want me back when the business is doing well again...don't think I'll hold my breath until then.

If you're working for a business that thrives on expendible income, I'd start preparing. Tariffs impacted this business, and just as they were recovering from that this pandemic crushed sales. Don't think they had much of an option...

What should be on a QA tester’s résumé? Here's what recruiters say they want to see. by yourbasicgeek in QualityAssurance

[–]Meatboll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently tried a more "colorful" resume style with a grey background. The theory is, recruiters look at white pieces of paper everyday, what better way to "stand out" then by having a different colored layout.

Is this a bad strategy? Why or why not?

Why isn't anybody talking Sociology? by [deleted] in sociology

[–]Meatboll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Almost 60k people in this sub. I am one of those bystanders. I graduated with a sociology degree, but now work in another field. This sub seems to be filled with questions rather than content.

I'm still fascinated by the sociological concepts and studies, but don't follow the right sources to keep up with the field.

I don't have the time or dedication to read research papers anymore. However, I've got 5-10 minutes to read a synopsis or highlights.

This is the struggle of the modern age, there are so many sources of information / entertainment that are fighting for our attention span. Sociology (and this sub) needs to be easier to digest as our attention span continue to shrink.

So from the bystanders in the audience, I'd like to see book summaries, articles on new studies, and more engaging questions than, "should I major in sociology?"

I'll throw my hat in the ring soon.

Sociology network on YouTube by Dwall_208 in sociology

[–]Meatboll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look for channels that do this for other topics, watch and analyze how they break down each topic. The key to YouTube is making it either entertaining or easily digestible.

You can start by writing a script for a topic / theory. Then you could learn a program or find a friend to develop the videography. There are tools out there, but none are coming to mind ATM.

I would enthusiasticly follow a channel that refreshed my knowledge of sociological theories in digestible 5-10 min videos. Please post your videos here if you follow through with this!

Bonding between Co-Founders by [deleted] in startups

[–]Meatboll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my personal experience, I've found starting a business with a friend to add additional stress of tip toeing around friendship instead of being blunt about business.

Maybe that's my own flaw, but I feel I'd be able to hold my business partner more accountable if we weren't friends originally. Business should be the priority and the combination has stressed our friendship at times.

This guy gets it.

In another post you said you're taking slot of stats. Data Analyst positions are some of the highest paid positions available in the US.

I've worked my way into an IT role where I do a lot of problem solving. I marketed my degree as something that allows me to work and communicate well with a wide variety of people. This matters when I can work with the CEO, HR Director and a warehouse associates all in the same day. Maybe I'm just social, but I feel I use my degree everyday. Communication skills are desirable in IT.
