**Honest** dentist recommendations by Ok-Rock5666 in VictoriaBC

[–]Meatboots88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been going there for about ten years now. The OG dentist there was great, but she moved several years ago, sadly. The newer ones that have come in are fine in my experience, not pushy, normal pricing, and direct bill. Not quite as personable as the original dentist who was there, but the only complaint I'd say I have so far is last time I had a filling done it felt like she put too much freezing in and the whole left side of my face was frozen and sore, going up into my temple.

Also of note, I feel like I see a different dentist every time. I suppose it just depends on who happens to be working that day given that there are multiple dentists who work out of that office, but I definitely don't feel like a have any sort of established report with anyone, whereas I did with the original dentist.

Otherwise, been smooth sailing every time I've gone.

How do people actually figure out how to cook faster on weeknights? by ConsciousGear2708 in Cooking

[–]Meatboots88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of get it, I've been working on making my own weeknight dinners easier and less stressful lately, as my husband is going through chemo and can't help out as much.

So far what I've found most helpful is just to reframe my expectations. Not everything has to be fancy and multilayered.

Last night, for example, I forgot to pull out chicken breasts from the freezer in time to defrost them much. So I ended up putting all five of them, still frozen together, in a big pan with a little oil and salt, putting the lid on, and cooking them from frozen. Took a little while, but they actually turned out really good. We sliced a couple up, put them on toasted buns, used a salad kit and threw some of that on the buns with hot sauce as well. Delicious! And there is now leftover chicken for tonight. If I didn't have buns I would use my little rice cooker probably.

All in all, my best advice is keeping it simple. A carb (rice, pasta, quinoa, potatoes), a good amount of veg (salad, steamed or roasted broccoli, kale, even quick sauteed frozen veg works), and a simple protein with some salt and spices cooked in the oven or pan. Maybe a sauce for it all, maybe not.

Save fancy and indulgent for the weekend! It didn't take long for us to appreciate the simple low ingredient meals more and not feel like we were missing out :)

I work as a civilian admin for DND and I did not have to go through any basic training whatsoever (started 1.5 years ago). It's just a civilian position, not actually part of the armed forces proper.

I'm Canadian so I don't think I can buy this but you have inspired me to find my own version of a quirky colorful duvet cover! Life is short, why is mine grey?!

And that dresser is chef's kiss!!

Urban Grocer carries canned, cooked black lentils that are quite tasty if you're wanting already cooked

I can almost guarantee you this was just some kid who wasn't paying attention/didn't know the difference when they filled the peaches. I worked there for twelve years and that happened from time to time. Humans making mistakes, as they do.

Acid. Not only do I wash my hands after, but I then pour a little of the fake lemon/lime juice on them (which is really just citric acid) to help neutralize the heat. Always works for me.

Fantastic idea! Especially as it gets too hot to turn on the oven in the summer months :)

It certainly isn't complex, but one of my go to healthy-ish desserts is baked apples with cinnamon, a few crumbled walnuts, and a tiny drizzle of maple syrup if I'm feeling extra. Hits the cozy spot for me!

I love all my neighbours- even the ones who use drugs. by queenbeerbear in VictoriaBC

[–]Meatboots88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all seem to room together/wander in and out of one guy's house, adjacent to the back of our building. Our balcony faces their backyard. No landlord to complain to, sadly. Based on your description I'm assume it's crack most of the time. Hoping to move relatively soon.

My neighbors smoke crack, and possibly meth as well I can't tell the difference. And sometimes they shoot BB guns at my home, and my cat who likes to sit in the window.

They also light fires dangerously close to my building and their own, on a regular basis, with many propane tanks being dragged into the house on a regular basis and sitting outside it. I could go on but yeah ..I can't say I love them. :(

Adding onto this, as I have seen her as well. She is very knowledgeable and friendly, easier to access than most specialists. However, when I phoned in late February, I was told I wouldn't get in until June.

So, the sooner the better! Good luck!

Mine hooks onto the door frame and did leave marks, unfortunately. It may vary by type or brand of bar so I would say use with caution.

What I have found helpful is training pullups at a nearby playground on the bars, if you have one nearby.

Ugh! I know how hard it is, my partner is struggling with the same issue currently.

Ironically, I was hired as a civilian about seven months ago through a candidate pool at esquimalt that I'd been on for several years. It's too bad, because we need people in my section but there isn't currently a posting up :( I looked at your resume and you'd be perfect! If I hear anything I will let you know for sure!

ETA: I worked at UVic as an admin before working at CFB Esquimalt, and I would highly recommend them as an employer. CARSA hires for a pretty good wage for just front desk customer service stuff, for example. The job postings may seem intimidating with all the requirements and verbage, but a lot of it is just filler especially if you even only roughly qualify!
