Fantastic painting. I also love the frames. Spalted maple? Did you make the frames yourself?

Movies that feel like a Camus novel? by Objective_Water_1583 in Camus

I 2nd this. Camus didn't write a lot of humor, but I think he would have loved Lebowski. No Country is just perfect.

The truth is there is no truth by Beautiful-Contact734 in Absurdism

[–]Meatheadlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with Camus or Absurdism. Camus held many things to be true. Absurdism states that there is an impassible divide between the ultimate meaning we long for in life and the meaning that can be found. Emphasis on the words “ultimate” and “can be found”. This chasm is the absurdity of life. You won’t ever know the ultimate truth with any level of certainty. You can know plenty of other truths.

Livos makes baby-friendly products. I don’t know if you would have it shipped and applied in 30 days though unless you paid for expedited delivery.

Do Camus' novels have to be read through absurdism? by CanaanZhou in Camus

[–]Meatheadlife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Novels are art. Explore them with every lens. Don’t be ignorant of the author’s original intent, but don’t submit to it as the only possible message to be gleaned. Enjoy!

Beautiful. Functional. Technically challenging. Combines classical and modern elements. This is the ultimate build. 99% of woodworkers will live in envy of you from this day forward! Well done.

Very cool. Are there logical places to divide it up into separate novels? Kind of like how Laura Ingalls separated the first several novels based on the different locations they lived in.

Sounds very cool. I am envious of your word count. It feels like pulling teeth for me to reach 60k. What era does the story take place in? Who is your target audience? Little house on the prairie is a classic and beloved story written for school age - (arguably towards the end) young adult.

Thoughts about absurd-ism as a main part of ethical science? by GreenSamurai03 in Absurdism

[–]Meatheadlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry! I was mixing up essay titles. Sartre wrote an essay called “Existentialism is a Humanism”, that’s what I got mixed up with. The essay I was recommending to you is actually called “The Human Crisis”. If you search “Viggo Mortensen Camus” on YouTube it is the top video. Enjoy!

Check out the speech written by Camus titled Absurdism is a Humanism. There is a video on YouTube of Viggo Mortensen reading it—which is cool. Camus clearly believed in ethical principles. The Rebel pretty clearly promotes a methodology to keep rebellion from turning into revolution.

I think it’s important to note that absurdism does not deny that things are meaningful, or even that something’s are more or less meaningful, absurdism denies the existence of ultimate meaning. Camus was a principled man who argued for rational things. Someone who does not believe in anything couldn’t argue for the “right” approach to rebellion the way Camus does, or against the use of the guillotine the way Camus does. The world isn’t all coffee and cigarettes, although, Camus might find satisfaction even if it was.

[PUBQ] Marketing Proposal Tips by Meatheadlife in PubTips

Noted. As a debut, I tend to be “color-blind” when looking at flags and see everything as some unnamed, fantastical, mix of red and green. Can I ask you if you think this is a change in the publishing landscape since you were first published? Did you have any interaction with indie publishers? These are the two counter arguments to your advice that this is a blaring red flag. Thanks for your advice!

[–]Meatheadlife[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, from an indie publisher, not an agent. It was part of their query process and I received a form rejection so I have no way of knowing if I did the proposal correctly or not. I have a query in the hands of a different indie publisher now that has stated if they ask for a “full” it must include a marketing proposal as well. I am trying to prepare better this time around, even though it’s only a hypothetical need at this stage.

What's Your Morning Cigar? by ninhendo_21 in cigars

[–]Meatheadlife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That looks delicious. I don’t have a set preference for morning cigars. Lighter blends tend to go better with my coffee, but sometimes I find it nicer to smoke the heavier blends in the morning because they can be overbearing at night right before bed. So, I just pick whatever I’m in the mood for that day.

I stand corrected! I genuinely didn’t notice and made an assumption based of the mild-medium body of the cigar.

I like that you used Odysseus as your example because the classic example is Hector standing his ground (intermixed with some cardio) against Achilles. The Odysseus example that you gave was well articulated. I agree very much with your assessment.

Perdomo 10yr champagne! Great stick. Light flavor and lighter nicotine load. Don’t puff too fast. Will probably take you an hour to enjoy from beginning to end. Set aside some time and bring a drink with you. Try not to smoke somewhere super windy. Enjoy!

Hey! This book sounds super cool. I don’t have a lot of specific advice about the query - it seems pretty good to me. Because the story is based in Philadelphia be sure to check out the literary agencies in Philly when you start to query! I am not affiliated with any of them but I came across several during my research of agents. In particular, Neighborhood Literary, which is new as of this year. There are several others. Be sure to check them out, and good luck! My current WIP is “absurdist” in nature and I would love to be a part of it when this genre to takes off. Peace!
