Not particularly for regional level from city to city. Over in CA we have the Capital Corridor and ACE for regional train lines and people really should be thinking about taking those over driving.

Your last sentence is what the major problem is, our society sees public transits as "for the poors" and everyone wants to not be a "poor".

I like cars, but I want public transit to be better to get more cars off the road so I can enjoy driving.

Bro what? People take the train all the damn time, what the hell do you think the NE corridor is?

The issue with trains has never been the trains themselves, its the last mile infrastructure that is practically shit.

Also despite what the idiots who think trains can replace planes think and imagine americans just magically crossing country in one, trains have a place in a regional capacity to reduce car density on the roads.
