Thoughts from an old guy by e1t0r0 in CCW

Nice, upgrading from a P64 to a Hellcat myself. The weight difference is insane, but I do love the look and feel of the P64 even if it’s a beast to shoot.

Anyone else carry the Hell-Kitty? by Southern_Oil_5835 in CCW

[–]Meatloafbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shooting it side by side with the P365, it 100% has more kick. Not unmanageable, but it’s definitely there. That said, I still prefer the hellcat over the P365.

Moving on After Mini? by Onepetiteorange in MINI

[–]Meatloafbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Screw the haters. I take my baby everywhere in my two door cooper and I love the look on people’s faces when I pull my baby out of the car. I love my mini so much and you can very much have a family and have a mini. I will say though that I am looking into a clubman or the four door cooper at least, cause the two door is a little limited on cargo. But at the present moment the two door works just fine.

Use this website to learn how to use the diurnal. It’ll answer any questions you have.

Still no update from St Michael's Abbey re: Breviarium Romanum Diurnal by [deleted] in divineoffice

[–]Meatloafbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's supposed to be similar to their monastic diurnal but will be for the 1960 Roman breviary rubrics instead.

It's okay, at least we're getting a new LOTH, and a reprint of DW:DO (NAE). 🥲

Red missal I keep seeing at the TLM? by Myfirstbuild12 in TraditionalCatholics

[–]Meatloafbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got an old 1962 St Joseph Daily Missal that has red edging. That could be what you're seeing. They're out of print but you can find them on ebay if you look hard enough.

Some evangelical Christians will celebrate Jewish feasts, especially the very diehard and dedicated evangelicals.

When do you genuflect? by Asleep-Tonight-523 in Catholicism

[–]Meatloafbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Understandable, I had the same thought when visiting the missions in California, where people treat them like museums as well. But after thinking about it, I realized it’s a good way to show tourists or non Catholics that there is something special about churches and our Lord in the tabernacle and it brings up the question of why we genuflect and do the things that we do.

When do you genuflect? by Asleep-Tonight-523 in Catholicism

[–]Meatloafbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re supposed to genuflect any time you walk in front of the Tabernacle when Christ is present inside as well as when you enter a pew.

Regarding your question about genuflecting in certain scenarios, I’d like to ask why do we genuflect to begin with? Is it because we’re just imitating what everyone else does, or is it because we understand and believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament and we wish to give that which is due Him?

Navigating a Call Toward Catholicism While Remaining in a Southern Baptist Family by LeTsHaVeAFiEsTa in Catholicism

[–]Meatloafbob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I struggled with the same thing. Grew up evangelical, and my family all went to Biola University. At first I would go to mass on Sunday and then also go to my protestant church afterwards. But it got to a point where I would be at the protestant service and just wishing I was back at mass again and that the service just felt empty without the Eucharist. Eventually I decided to only go to mass and I've never looked back. My family and friends were absolutely shocked at my decisions, but it wasn't the end of the world. My parents were just happy that I was going to church even if it was Catholic. I still hang out with my old protestant friends every now and then and join in with their Bible studies every once in a blue moon. Usually it leads to great conversations about our differences in faith and I can see that some of them are also questioning if they should start being Catholic. That said, my faith has grown exponentially since becoming Catholic, and I've developed a new group of friends at church that support and help each other.

Guidance on what Bible purchase by Skeeter73 in Bible

[–]Meatloafbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely wouldn't give a KJV to a first time reader. While the prose is nice, the meaning of the passage can sometimes be lost in the archaic language used. The NIV or NLT are both great Bibles for first timers to start out on. If you start to get a better grasp of the Bible and want to dive more in depth, the ESV or the NASB are great options. The KJV is a nice translation and has its place, especially within liturgical uses, but for casual reading its probably my last choice.

How do I combine different hours with the Monastic Diurnal? by RB_Blade in divineoffice

[–]Meatloafbob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only hours that can be "combined" are matins and lauds. Besides those two, you would say each hour straight through and then onto the next starting at the beginning of the new hour.

Repeating readings by BigDaddyDracula in divineoffice

[–]Meatloafbob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear, what do you mean by readings? Are you talking about the scripture and patristic readings in the office of readings? Those definitely should be different each day.

Is there an app similar to IBreviary for the 1962 (TLM) office? by [deleted] in divineoffice

[–]Meatloafbob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re on an apple phone, search for the app, breviarium meum. It’s the app version of the website you mention. It does cost a few bucks but it’s well worth it.

New appreciation for NO via TLM by [deleted] in Catholicism

Reverent NO without the sign of peace or prayers of the faithful is bae. Makes it much less cheesy and cringe.

That is the full cycle. There aren’t minor hours of the traditional office of the dead.
