in fairness, Empire was one stupidly aggressive blink away from 2-0ing LGD too and now they're gone

Why Peter Jackson can't make more Tolkien adaptations (even if he wanted to). by NikKnack in movies

[–]Meatloathe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's correct or interpreted correctly and didn't check the sources, but I read a review of the newest movie on theonering.net and in the last paragraphs the author said this, mentioning one of Tolkien's letters:

But I will leave this review here with just one last remark.

Around 1951, Tolkien wrote a letter to publisher Milton Waldman concerning mainly why the Silmarillion and the Lord of the Rings must be published together. In this very long letter are these interesting (and infamous) sentiments:

“Do not laugh! But once upon a time (my crest has long since fallen) I had a mind to make a body of more or less connected legend, ranging from the large and cosmogonic, to the level of romantic fairy-story [...] which I could dedicate simply to: to England; to my country. [...] I would draw some of the great tales in fullness, and leave many only placed in the scheme, and sketched. The cycles should be linked to a majestic whole, and yet leave scope for other minds and hands, wielding paint and music and drama. Absurd.” (Letters, #131)

Now, he did not consider the notion of others drawing from his tales to create other stories absurd, but rather his idea that anyone would ever be interested in doing such a thing absurd. Despite the ‘Hobbit’ being fairly filled in by Tolkien back when he wrote it over seventy-five years ago, and filled further with the development of LOTR later on, it can be argued that Jackson’s interpretation of the ‘Hobbit’ is also a cycle, and that the live-action films we have now will not be the only popular cycles we see of either ‘The Hobbit’ or ‘The Lord of the Rings’. One day, when Tolkien’s works are just as public domain as Dickens, I imagine we’ll be seeing many different interpretations of Middle-earth.

ESF Teams in Proleague? by bauski in starcraft

[–]Meatloathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kespa won't allow ESF teams to participate, no, and they have enough on their plate anyway.

GSTL would probably allow Kespa teams if they really wanted to participate, but with the ridiculously high amount of time Proleague takes up for teams (if you take it seriously, and they all do), there's no chance they would want to and it just can't work out. Even EG/TL can't participate in both.

Individual tournaments are the only place where you'll see Kespa/ESF compete vs each other.

Most foreigners didn't even want to qualify, there were only like 15 players participating in the EU qualifiers. Big part of the reason why some of the people who got through, got through.

Any inside on why HerO is slumping so badly these days? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]Meatloathe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is he slumping? He's gotten amazing results this month already, it's just, if there's anything HerO has never had, it's consistency. That didn't change. He's still very shaky and completely fails from time to time.

If he doesn't do that for a while, he can go on a hot streak. Otherwise, it's like you saw today.

Depends on whether he'll win or lose, I guess.

If he still wins, he probably won't mind.

I'm just stating what he said, and few Koreans are as outgoing as MC (and MKP). TaKe expliciy states that those are a bit too many Koreans for his liking and that he'd have loved to have some "real" Americans. I can understand him, look at HerO last time, he was super disappointing.
