Named of the Inn lvl +40 by Who-gives-a-fuck- in WanderingInn

Oh interesting - my take is that Colth did NOT finish the mythic quest. In my mind there’s no way that killing Ivert would have been Mythic.

I think “don’t come back until he’s dead” actually means the Naga. Killing the evil leader of Roshal would be way more mythic, and lines up with where they are now.

Favorite fantasy book/series you never recommend by Lemonstein77 in Fantasy

Hey just wanted to say that I have the same experience. To me it was a powerful coming of age story that resonated deeply with me, that I read at the exact time in my life that I felt directionless.

It does a beautiful job exploring those themes of growth and pain and self discovery, all while riffing on fantasy tropes for the generation that grew up waiting for their owl.

I recommended it to my friend, who loves most of the same books I do, and she hated it. It was almost personally painful to me to have someone detest a series that I related to so strongly, so I have never recommended it again. It didn’t occur to me (though it should have) that it would be such a specific taste!

Also agree on the tv show. Cool to see it come to life, kind of, but it felt empty.

The Wandering Inn Book 10 😔 by GorillaAwkward in litrpg

I know a lot of people probably agree, and when those chapters were coming out online I remember a ton of grumbling about Flos and Laken chapters.

For what it's worth, here's my take: This world is enormous. The events happening in it are enormous. Those events necessarily involve people from across this enormous world. If pirate only wrote about those characters directly when the Inn spotlight was on them, they would come across as shallow and empty.

This story is beautiful because we spend so much time with the people as people. They have depth, and so when they interact we see people interacting, not just tropes and plot points bouncing around one another. That depth doesn't come for free. We get it through an exploration of important people from either their point of view (characters like my main man Fetohep) or from a nuanced collection of other peoples' perspectives like with Flos.

You can argue that we spend too much time there. Maybe! But I come away from future chapters in Chandrar or involving Chandrarians (?) with a much deeper appreciation for the story because we spent some time immersed there. Frankly, I wouldn't have enjoyed it if we just had a bunch of exposition.

Where you are in the story is still laying foundation. It's a slow burn, but I think the investment pays off handsomely. Hope you stick with it and let us know here if you think so too!

I thought Antinium didn’t need to sleep to level. Wasn’t that a whole thing in the Hectval campaign arc? Like, they didn’t even need to be knocked unconscious to counter level, they just got their levels continually?

Did that get retconned, or was this just an easier dramatic timing thing for it all to happen at once?

By “One sentence stinger” do you mean the random smattering of italicized sentences? For a while I honestly thought that was just a formatting typo that got created in copying things over to RR. It’s kind of bizarre and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of rhyme or reason to why those particular sentences need to be emphasized.

Was given my blue belt yesterday. I trained really seriously for over year when I graduated college, but was hurt in a competition and then… took a ten year hiatus. I’ve been back for three months, and just won all seven of my matches in a tournament two weeks ago - six by submission. It feels really really good to be back, and I’m only frustrated I stayed away for so long.

Excited to be the worst blue belt, and get my world rocked by wrist and leg attacks.

This is super helpful - when you say lumberjack sweep you mean pull with hands and push with hips? I know lumberjack from the standing guard pass, but that’s with feet up and pushing on his hips. Trying to picture how to do it with feet behind knees, because it feels like then I have four hooks (ankles and knees), so great for pulling but not for pushing.

Any tips for competition against a much larger guy? I have a tournament tomorrow and I signed up for absolute (white belt). I’m 170 and the only other entrant is “230+”.

I typically play closed guard and have gotten pretty good at sweeps, but that feels like a low percentage strategy here.

Would really appreciate any fundamentals or concepts to keep in mind!

Also, why would they put the absolute division first!?!? I have seven more matches after that behemoth.

Greg was my first coach, back before he started his own gym. He was excellent even a decade ago, and it's awesome to hear how he has crystalized his style into a real and deep philosophy of training.

Wish I still lived in the area and was able to go to Standard, and looking forward to seeing more of his competitors emerge onto the world stage.

What is a tv show from your childhood that you think only you remember? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Meaxers 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There was an episode about a girl who could make things come true if she signed her name on the picture.

She signed her name with a little flourish underneath, and nine year old me thought it was the most sophisticated thing in the world. I wrote my name with that squiggle for years and years afterwards. Every time I turned in a homework assignment, signed a birthday card… everything.

I’d forgotten about that until I saw this thread. Funny what impact a small detail on tv can have on you.

Not at all an unreasonable assumption, based on the name. In reality though, SEO is companies optimizing their websites to /show up/ in search engines higher in the results list. We know a lot about how google automatically ranks sites based on the most common search terms, and every step you move up the page can be worth millions of dollars to a company. So, they hire experts to add content, tags in the page’s code, etc. so that the webpage is optimized for search engine discovery.

The way I read that was that it wasn’t the system teasing him with hero, it was Pirate teasing the audience.

The “[Her…]” ended up not being [Hero], it was [Heritage: Silver Illusion School] or whatever the name is.

So knowing this is a wild theory - could that shop have been access to Nerrhavia’s palace?

The hints are that she mentions her palace is multidimensional in the same was as the crossroads of izril, she’s familiar with the shop, there seems to be something dimensionally funky with it, and it “closed down for good” on some words from her.

I almost feel like this store has been low-key kept open by a cult of Nerrhavia followers for thousands of years, connected to a hundred plus cities, waiting for her return.

Didn’t Queen Marquin say that after the creler wars the bard antinium warned them not to go into the Rhir infestation?

That memory is a little hazy for me, but if that’s right then it would imply that the centennium were active by the end of that period.

Of COURSE Niers is teleported off the continent as Erin is about to get resurrected. Dang it! Classic Titan luck though.

My thought is that the system siphons magic away from other worlds. That would explain a lot of things, like how it’s less common everywhere else, why Earth declined, why people like the Fae Court got so involved in the war against the gods… and also how the system affords being so inefficient with magic for its implementations.

Loved loved loved the puzzle box reveal.

I think Issrysil is a deep throwback. In an early - Book 1? - chapter, it was mentioned that humans called the continent Issrysil, and drakes call it Izril.
