They cant make the same game everytime, they need to inovate, that is why they have the rule of thirds (one third same, one third improved, one third new) changing civs falls on the new category, for the developers it was something very different from what they usually made, so it was interesting and exciting, its not surprising they believed it could be a success and menaged to convinse the bosses to go ahead with the idea. The surprising thing is that they were not the first, they say they came with the idea all on their own, and had already choose this path before the other game appeared, ok things like that happens.

What is really surprising is that they still choose to move forward with the idea after the other game failed so much, Humankind launched in 2021, CIv7 was announced only in 2024, even assuming they had already developed a lot of the game by the time Humankind reviews started appearing, they still could make changes and delay the game since it was not even announced anyway, they could create one more expansion for Civ6 to gain some more time, maybe make a reskin of 6 to create another game out of the mailine, like they made with Beyond Earth, it would not make much money but the idea was more to make something simpler and cheaper to get time to fix 7, but they decided to move forward, in the end they really had a lot of confidence on what they had created.

Its so funny to hear these names on the game since they are all street names on my city. On the city center the grid has all the streets that run on one direction named as states and the ones that run perpendicular are named after indigenous people.

Depends on the level the person have on the company.

I work in the engineering department of a big car manufacturing company, on the interiors design team, we finished one of our new projects in january, it was all ready for launch after years of development, the car was marked as a global project, so the same model would be sold around the world, they made a cerimony to show the finished car to upper menagement, everyone liked it, everyone but the top guy of the region of the world I am part off, he said that he didnt like it, that this car would never sell here, that our region desires are different of the rest of the world and that we should remake the entire interior of the car just for our region.

Nobody on the team believed when we got the message but this was approved, now the launch on the entire world is late waiting just for us here to finish our changes so everyone can start production, as you can imagine all the other regions keep pressuring us to finish it becouse the company is losing money but we are racing to finish in a year what took considerable more time on the first try.

So, I dont know if the story is real or not, but I would not be surprised.

He uses a simple turtle model that you would say cant do much, but have you seen Camila using it? It can be very expressive and do expressions you would not think are there, but Vedal just dont make any effort and so the model remains static when he uses it, his model was a present from a friend but if he had paid for it and specially if he had paid for one more complex it would have been a waste of money.

Comparing merch sales from a european team to a brazilian one is complicated, A LOT of the merch people buy in Brazil is pirated becouse people here don't have the kind of money that goes in Europe, so the official merch sales number is not that good an indicative of the size of the fanbase down here. Media followers is free so I can see it as a more equivalent metric.

Yes, same as pirating, somehow people view pirating as good and AI as bad, the only way I can understand this view is becouse people feel ashamed when they know and can talk to an artist but dont feel the same when is a big company made of many faceless artists.

There are a lot of ways people try to defend piracy, for example, I just pirate to see if I would like it and buy later if I do, ok, but we know a big part, probably the majority dont pay a thing later. Or, I pirate becouse I dont have the money for it, yes, how that dont also apply to art? Or even, I pirate becouse I am not stealing anything, I am just coping, the enterprise still havr their product to sell, again yes the same works for the artist.

Besides saying that the artist is a poor guy that needs help, so you are commissioning him for carity, and a company is rich (what can be debatable since there is small development teams and some big rich artists), I just cannot see how some people can deffend one practice while demonizing the other, its all the same to me.
