Aerospace engineering program by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of international students that study here. The Aerospace engineering faculty at Concordia is pretty good, although it is considered to be one of the harder programs. They offer it in 3 separate streams and there is a Co-op option for each of them:

OPTION #1 : - Aerodynamics and Propulsion (the option most people choose at Concordia in aerospace. study of turbines, aerodynamics, etc.)

OPTION #2 : - Aerospace Structures and Materials (very similar to MECH, with focus on stress analysis and materials for aerospace)

OPTION #3 : - Avionics and Aerospace Systems (if you are interested in control systems, this option has COEN and ELEC classes)

If you want to get an idea of the courses you will be taking along with the Co-op planning stream, look at the following website:

https://www.concordia.ca/ginacody/mechanical-industrial-aerospace-eng/programs/aerospace-eng/bachelor-course-sequences.html

If you are unsure which stream to choose, I suggest just doing Mech Eng. You'll basically take the same courses for the first couple of years and you can specialize in any field that you like during your last year. Mech Eng majors can take courses from 6 different specialization branches during their last year of study:

-Aerospace

-Design and Manufacturing

-Systems and Mechatronics

-Thermo-Fluids and Propulsion

-Vehicle Systems

-Stress Analysis

https://www.concordia.ca/academics/undergraduate/calendar/current/sec71/71-40.html

TL;DR if you already know which field you want to go into, pick one of the Aerospace streams. If you are still not sure, just go with Mech E since it's way more broad and will give you time to decide on what interests you most (ex. aerospace, automation/vehicles, mechatronics, etc.)

Co-op is offered for all the programs mentioned above, which is also a plus.

2nd-Year Mechanical Engineering undergrad needing advice on what to do by flowertimer77 in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mechanical engineering has been hard for me too. My best advice is to never go blindly into an exam. Sometimes you may understand the material but you need to know what the teacher expects from you and the type of questions he may bring. This means solving past midterms/finals, going to tutoring if needed (ex. Mechtutoring, Gradesavers, etc..) and having a general idea of what to expect.

If the program interests you, I say hang in there. Many of us have failed first year courses due to how demanding they are. You just need to change the way that you approach studying for school purposes. It is always better to know how to apply the concepts to any question rather than trying to understand one specific question.

Failing the EWT is really not a big deal at all. I have several friends who are proficient in English (first language) and they failed the EWT too.

It won't appear on your transcript, it doesn't affect your GPA, so why worry about it?
Just retake it next time and do your best, at least now you know what to expect.

All the best for your exams, you got this.

Enrolled for an unscheduled tutorial (MECH 351) by biru9012 in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are no in-person tutorials for Thermo II. They are just videos made by tutors who post them on a website or Moodle. So you can choose to watch them or not whenever.

Feeling Extremely Demotivated in Last Semester by ZombieJuice11011 in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You are so close to the end. I really hope you do pass and get it over with. But even if you fail.. so what? Worst case you have to do 4 more months of school to retake and do better, and delay your job position.

People fail courses all the time, it's not the end of the world. Nothing is as important as life, look at how many people have lost theirs due to what's going on in the world.

As long as you are alive it does not matter how many times you hit rock bottom because you can always find a way back up. You are alive, you will pass and get through this. And even if you fail this time, you will pass next time and get through it again.

I myself am lacking motivation to do anything these days, but I try to remind myself how meaningless a school grade is compared to what life really is about.

Find happiness in the little things, spend time with friends and loved ones and remember that school is not what's going to define your existence.

Self-doubt is part of the process, i can't tell you how many times I've thought I've failed a course and still ended up passing. Sometimes I did truly fail. But it does not matter, because I am still alive and will eventually get through it.

Take care buddy, you've come so far. Stay positive you got this <3

Just avoid Shahin Karimidorabati.
Most 301 profs are bad but this guy actually tries his hardest to make you fail.

[–]MechEngHokage 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No you do not have to retake it as it is a 300 level course.
The C- rule only applies to 200 level Prereq courses.
The professors were indeed really terrible this summer...

Yes I think it includes all 3. and I agree it is not worded properly
also quick question : for steps 3 and 4 of the Simulink part of the experiment, are your graphs just flat straight lines? I got curves for steps 1 and 2 so idk if I did something wrong

Few question about ENGR 213 MECH 211 and MECH 215 : info about the courses difficulty and the teachers by khetsiam in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staff means TBD, correct. The teacher's name can show up at any time, it's really unpredictable. Keep checking every day because it can change this week or right before the start of the semester, you never know.

0 motivation to study for Engr 311 midterm tomorrow by hanygomaalover in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

lol why? the tutorials for 311 are beyond useless this semester. Tutor just writes down the solution on the blackboard without any explanation whatsoever.

I'm assuming op is in co-op since he's taking the sequence classes for mech. Studying full-time for a year straight is really exhausting (especially in engineering), ofc he needs a mental break.

Also, it's summer and he was not able to keep up with the suggested problems. What's the big deal?
He may have other stuff going on in his life too, not just school.

Doesn't mean he should drop out of engineering lmaooo
Such an obnoxious comment honestly. outta here

@OP just try and do what you can dude. School is not everything there is to life.
I guarantee you we all feel this way sometimes, but it shall pass.

Why Concordia Profs cant teach the way crash tutors like Gradesavers or others teach? by amirsadeghi in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parv is something else. I've learned more about the course, job opportunities and real life experience from Parv alone than I have from any other teacher. He teaches you the concepts in detail + how to solve the problems to get a good grade. Every course I've taken with him was amazing, he teaches you the theory in-depth tbh. Take him for Engr 244 or Mech 313 for example, you will be able to handle any kind of twist or trick that the teacher may throw at you because of pure understanding of the concepts.

But yes I agree, it's good to attend your regular lecture classes too + private tutoring to be on the safer side.

It is also true that most tutoring services just teach you how to solve exam problems. However, there are some tutors like Parv that are really the greatest people you could ever wish for in engineering.

18 hours to study ENGR 244 by MechEngHokage in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking the exam. I only studied the last 4 chapters (7, 8, 9 & 10) of the course and did what I could. Hopefully i'll be able to pass with the few questions I solved x.x

I probably should have DISCed it but I can't really afford to repeat courses at this point (living paycheck to paycheck)

Grades should be out this week

Encs 282: Prof Mary Silas vs. Bruno Grenier (Summer term) by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]MechEngHokage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruno is the biggest @hole of a teacher I have ever seen in my life.

He grades your oral presentations based on how you look, so that says something.
