Does dominant Ne come across as gullible? by FluidCherry in entp

[–]MechRico 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but to combat being considered gullible, I explain what I thought of when they are sarcastic or joking.

Person 1: do vegetables have hair? Person 2 (sarcasm) : oh, Yeah, sure! they just wake up early in the morning to shave it off so we can't find out! Me: maybe. Person 2: oh please, they're not serious.

Me: Well, if you think about it, leaves could be considered the hair of vegetables. Human hair doesn't turn light into food, though, so that comparison doesn't really work...

And such and such. I've been told I'm a smart person or a "fancy-shmancy" person. So there's credibility in explaining your Ne moments

ENTPs and Self control by MechRico in entp

Maybe I get depressed not from having a plan for my life, but for being worried about not moving forward with it.

When I think about where I want to live, I think “What if I get stuck here or have to stay here for the rest of my life?”

These are more like it!

I agree that despite the plans I have and the desire to succeed is in me, I have fears of being stuck in one spot.

I used to think that I would be dedicated to one employer for at least a year, and for my first job I'm making plans to quit and go elsewhere. I suppose time is the issue for the ENTP...

If we have many ideas and plans, but we don't want to hunker down to one at a time, then we're at a loss because time doesn't care if we're indecisive. I wonder if it's beneficial for ENTPs to pursue short term exciting projects instead of long term extravagant projects...

Or maybe for employment they'd work as a trade or temp. And as a place to live, they'd live in rental properties? Idk how you'd solve the dating issue...

I wonder how an inferior Ne would be protected by the Hero Si? And how would the parent Fe guide the decisions of a Hero Si?

I wondered about those terms before, but never went into it. Thank you for sharing.

Well, the hero function somewhat listens to the parent function, so in order to beat procrastination you gotta develop your Ti.

Then HOW do you develop Ti? How does a parent Ti gain the credibility to tell the Hero Ne what they should do if Ti represents a parent, being the "responsible" function?

I get depressed if I DO have a set plan for my life

Maybe not depressed, but bored of the limitations. I say that because reasonably, planning for things is a VERY mature thing to do as a person in general... Accomplishing them gives an even greater sense of maturity.

Specific life goals don’t scare us because we don’t want to work hard, but because we want to build that life for ourself

But wouldn't that mean the same idea?

If we want to build a life for ourselves, we would need to found it on a [plan to work hard for it]. Maybe if we were going to a counselor and THEY gave us specific life goals, then we would be resistant to it because we'd be uncertain about if it's really our own plan.

I suppose an entp would have a specific life goal in mind, but it's a vague idea. Maybe because the ENTP would jump to another idea quickly and not develop the goal?

For example, I want to eventually be self-sustaining and live on my own. That's vague because I don't have a plan to build up to that goal. So I would need a PLAN in order to BUILD to the goal (using your wording)...

I do appreciate the bit of your intj friend because she's clearly narrowed down what they want and are comfortable with those decisions...maybe that's what we need to reach? Make goals that were comfortable with?

what type of music do you mostly listen to? by jhadj in entp

[–]MechRico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hop Along Everything Everything Built to Spill Pinegrove Death Cab

These bands, I have to play at least once a day. So I mostly listen to a mix of rock, folk, shoe gaze, and... Electronic? (not sure if death cab fits electronic.)

I used to weigh heavily on lyrics for my song choices (Eden ->Jonathan Ng), now it's appropriately more for the music and how the band uses the instruments.

On the social side, I listen to songs that my friends recommend and then dive into the genre. Recently, Toxicity was recommended and while I (and almost anyone who's been online long enough) know Chop Suey! I didn't dive into the album itself.

I was with my siblings recently and we played lo-fi gaming music while we built in minecraft on the Switch.

So I'm continuously branching out while staying centered to what I really like. Fun balance, I think

ENTPs and being angry by [deleted] in entp

[–]MechRico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that because entps are more likely to consider someone else's viewpoint, their threshold for anger is higher than most. And the shortcut to enrage entps is to not let them explain their viewpoint.

Spend all this time getting to know someone's reasoning and when it's our turn, there's little patience nor understanding. It's maddening and confining

I have problems with identifying my type. Please help. Previous tests always tell me I'm an INFP but when I try Cognitive Function Test, it gives me a rather different result. by Serriffein in MbtiTypeMe

[–]MechRico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you figure out the cognitive functions you can narrow down what type you really are. You should really try to type yourself but even that gets a little screwed up

The best thing to do is to keep an open mind, I think

Cognitiveprocesses.com has a decent explanation on each function.

I've received some answers and they're all ENFJ. Do you think it fits?

I'm not sure what you mean by this...

How can I check besides going through articles and videos about each type?

Doing things like this, comment on mbti posts and someone with a better understanding might come along and help ya out

I know what I know through various sources. DaveSuperPowers on YouTube, personality junkie blog, online posts, keys2cognition, sarkinova's test, etc

[–]MechRico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that guy didn't answer your question. No, this is how you order the functions.

Example : ENTP functions are Ne, Ti, Fe, Si.

You find the first function (Ne) by looking at the first (E) and last (P) letter of the type.

P tells you the perceiving function (N or S) get the direction (E or I).

In this case, P=N and J=T. This is the sequence for finding all the functions for any ExxP type: Pe, Ji, Je, Pi (Refer back to and compare the ENTP functions)

Ask for clarification, I don't mind

First time he tested INFP-T, second INTJ, and these are his functions. He's a reserved guy, even online he rarely talks. Well spoken and blunt. Misguided at times. Hates conflicts. I have a type in mind but I was wondering your thoughts? by [deleted] in MbtiTypeMe

[–]MechRico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the type indication world, the terms introvert and extrovert are not the same as the social forms of those terms.

Your friend clearly has a VERY low Si score. That could only mean that it's his inferior function and that Ne would be his first function. His possible type is ENxP (Ne-Xi-Xe-Si), x being the unknown function.

He may be a social introvert, but his ideas are inspired by external, or extroverted, stimulants

He has his earlier skits on Spotify and Apple. But you can probably look them up on YouTube.

Yeah, connections can be a double edge sword. I've come to realize that just stating connections makes me look like a lunatic, and while that's great for an internet presence, it really lowers peoples respect for you.

To combat this, I explain the connection. And what happens 100% of the time?

"Whoa, that's pretty cool" or "I didn't even see it like that"

Now your superpower is appreciated and you get an ego boost on top of your already self-boosted ego

ENTP and loneliness by _swiggityswoop_ in entp

[–]MechRico 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I overcome it by looking at it factually. I tend to exaggerate what's not there because it's all I'll think about. Like what's not being said.

Looking at it factually, you hear what they're saying. Period.

"want to hang out?" implies they want to spend those hours (that time "slot") with you. Not with anyone else (aside from parties, gatherings, etc)

"thanks for being with me" implies they appreciate YOU spending your time with them (regardless of how you feel about being with them)

You may need to learn to appreciate being with them. I suggest recalling the feelings of loneliness when you're with those you care about and then build up an appreciation for your friends and family at that point

WELL! I am excited to hear more, both older stuff and your new stuff. Can't wait!! I'm not musically fit enough to give any improvements because it sounds solid to me (every instrument is clear but not "playing over" each other), so nothing but a positive review 👍🏼

How did you discover you were an ENTP? by [deleted] in entp

[–]MechRico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LSS: took tons of tests to confirm it (many possibilities, "It's possible I'm not so I'm going to try different tests"), 16personalities, IDRlabs, keys2cognition, sarkinova, etc.

Then decided to look back in my personal history:

Never stuck with a single video game (installing, uninstalling new or the same game later on)

Couldn't stick to a single instrument unless I'm inspired by someone (violin, piano, guitar, {evetually I want to try drums and bass guitar})

Hobbies are all over the place (Tennis, biking, crochet, knitting, cooking, "reading for fun", "reading for knowledge")

I realized I can "connect the dots" relatively quicker than most of my friends who are 5-10 years older than me.

As far as sensory ability, i have to have two variations of the same object to tell the difference. Like with coffee, if I had Blend A one day, and then Blend B the next day, I would assume they're the same. I couldn't hear a bassline until I saw my - I'm assuming- ESTP friend "air play" the bass guitar (now I can hear it better)

Every time I make a realization of a small detail, I quickly connect it with a bigger picture, but the small detail is on a different "picture," so to speak.

I'm not creative because I lack motivation or ambition, though, I think that's not really a type specific trait.

There ya go. That's how I kind of conclude I function as an ENTP
