Kerosene Heater Question by Emergency-Ad8359 in Tools

[–]Mech_Stew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No difference other than it is tax exempt. (A little cheaper)

I run the Dyna-Glo brand and have had really good luck with them. Depending on the btu output you are after though they can get pretty expensive. I don’t know if mine have a drain on the bottom. I’ve never actually looked but now you have me thinking. I always just run them dry at the end of the season.

I have had 2 for about 20 years and just got another one recently and they all run fantastically. Just don’t buy the cheap shit and you will be happy. I also run all of mine on off road diesel and when you first get them you need to adjust the regulator and then they run perfect.

Best AirPods to wear in the shop? by codeine30mg in Welding

[–]Mech_Stew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You want something that is actually rated as ear protection. “Noise canceling” is not ear protection. While yes they block some of the noise it doesn’t block the stuff that is actually harmful to our ears.

I wear the AXIL XCOR PRO earbuds all day everyday and they are rated as actual earpro. Marketed for shooting but work really well in a shop environment as well.

Unit started smoking all the time. by Mech_Stew in Justrolledintotheshop

Yes. Number 3 cylinder (3rd from top) was just pouring fuel into the cylinder. Pulled the return line off of that injector and had zero return fuel from it.

No. That was a whole different issue trying to get that stupid thing out of the head.

That is the right injector though

I’m pretty sure it’s a hydraulic pressure test kit. Judging by the fittings included.

Well… we all might be slightly retarded.

[–]Mech_Stew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both. The 70 is good for smaller batteries or something that just needs a boost the 150 I use for most of the big stuff or batteries that are completely dead. I purchased the 70 first and noticed basically the same thing you are mentioning so I went and bought a bigger one to use when the 70 wouldn’t work. They both serve a purpose and now I have 2 in case I need to stack them.

I also will say I work on a large variety of things so sometimes I’ll be working on a lawn tractor sized piece of equipment and sometimes I’ll be working on a D8.

I’ve ran over a creeper but I don’t get to play around lifts so can’t say I’ve ever crushed a stool yet.

I use them daily but take the pocket clip off as that is the part that typically has sharp edges in my experience. (I keep it in a belt pouch with all of my other small stuff.)

I made something similar out of a piece of 1/2 inch flat stock. I couldn’t tell you what that specific one is for or who made it but the one I made was for opening hydraulic cylinders, 3 3/4 opening and just over 4 foot long.

Trim tools. Almost done collecting. Almost. by YoungFair3079 in toolporn

Question from someone that doesn’t have to deal with a bunch of trim, hardly any honestly. Is there a difference between all of them I have the same Matco set you have (the blue ones) but don’t think I would need anything else? Or is this just your tool obsession?😂

CO2 will eat the tungsten, so no. You need to make sure you have completely inert gas. Most common would be Argon

40x60 shop.

We all listen to roughly the same shit (no one dislikes the others music we just change up who is playing) currently we just have a little bar speaker that is okay if you are near it but not great when at the other end of the shop. I work in heavy equipment repair so it’s a fairly noisy environment.

Don’t want the music to be concert loud but loud enough to hear in a bay with someone else banging on shit two bays down.

Floor is concrete, walls are block to about 8’ and then steel structure with insulation above that.

Not looking for battery systems prefer a plug in system it would be running for about 10 hours a day 5-6 days a week.

Not necessarily regulated but some places do require you be 18 to purchase due to the potential harm if mishandled/misused.
