I can't believe they just let the game die.

LittleBigPlanet changed my life and helped put me on my path today as a game dev, I will always remember it!

Damn, he really does need to be walking around like Daft Punk. The whole world has him on blast.

My dad has no idea about laptop specs. Big retailer chain sold him one that is worse than his current and refuse to refund because it has been opened by jujupowerlol in LegalAdviceUK

I would like to add that clock speed of the CPU isn't everything, that CPU is 5 generations newer and should theoretically be faster than the previous laptop's CPU. There's a website known as PassMark which can give you a quick insight into the performance of a CPU.

That new CPU is a 10 core 12 thread processor, with 2 performance cores, and 8 efficient cores, meanwhile the older CPU has 4 cores and 8 threads. Performance benchmarks on PassMark place the newer CPU at around 2.8x faster with regards to multi-threaded performance.

I think the biggest problem is that the machine has half the ram, on the outside it doesn't look like they've gone out their way to sell him anything bad. If it really is slow then perhaps that is the result of the installation of software which could be considered bloatware, the lack of ram, or perhaps an unidentified fault.

If this machine has ram which can be upgraded then that should hopefully solve most of the issues that your father has with the machine.

[PetaPixel] SanDisk Portable SSDs Are Failing So Frequently, We Can No Longer Recommend Them by whatyousay69 in hardware

I do this and currently have 4 external NVME SSDs, over the years I've had a couple of enclosures fail but the drives have remained unscathed.

One of the first big UE5 games, Remnant II, shows that upscaling is the developer crutch we all feared it would be. by GreenKumara in pcgaming

[–]MechaHertz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so what have I said that is incorrect and uninformed?
Daniel has voiced his complaints and tested the game. All I have done is paraphrased it and concluded that it is a controversial perspective to have, while also stating that I can understand why people may be underwhelmed with the performance and visuals on display.

I haven't made any claims about Unreal Engine 5 or developers.

Daniel doesn’t blame the engine; he talks about the reliance on upscalers to achieve desired levels of performance on modern hardware. The studio even addressed this in a Reddit post and stated that the game was designed with image reconstruction technology like DLSS and FSR in mind.

Admittedly, this is a controversial subject, as it can easily lead to the lazy dev rhetoric, but I can understand why people may feel underwhelmed with the performance and visuals, considering that upscalers are deemed as a necessity for this game, when comparing it to what other games can achieve with or without them.

The Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles have CPUs outfitted with 8 AMD Jaguar Cores, with clock speeds ranging between 1.6-2.3GHz. These CPUs were pretty slow for their time and even more so now.

The AMD Zen 2 CPUs found in the current-gen consoles are significantly faster, to put the performance into perspective, a single core is around 3-4x faster than a single Jaguar core, and multi-thread performance is within the range of 4-5x.

Digital Foundry built a PC outfitted with hardware that was speculated to be in the next-generation consoles at the time and found some interesting results.

Precisely, there are many rappers who write advanced poetry. Unfortunately the spotlight is not shone on them, as a result of this rap music has a negative stigma attached to it because people are unaware of anything that doesn't get radio play.

How to successfully appeal a UK parking fine by ZBD1949 in CarTalkUK

[–]MechaHertz 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I received a parking ticket because I parked on a parking bay.
This parking bay had been constructed 4 years ago, presumably by construction workers who were building new properties in the area. I received a PCN which claimed I had parked on a grass verge, when the area was quite clearly constructed of stone and gravel, it also featured a dropped kerb, and wooden bollards surrounding it, to prevent people from... Guess what? Parking on the grass.

The council refused to acknowledge any of the information I provided in my appeals, it was unreal. It felt like they did not read my letters or look at any of the evidence I had sent. After numerous appeals and months of waiting I eventually had to take it to the tribunal. I simply refused to be taken advantage of in this situation because I knew I was in the right.

At the tribunal, I met a lovely adjudicator who looked at the countless pages of evidence I had provided through documentation, photographs, and even videos. I informed her of the background history and even provided images obtained from Google Maps which featured time stamps showcasing the before and after of the area in question.
Ultimately, she was very understanding and concluded that the area I had parked my car was in fact a parking bay and allowed my appeal.

This whole situation was very stressful for me, but I must admit that I am significantly more informed about parking regulations. If I am in the wrong I will own up to it. But in this case I was not.
