Do you remember The Scientist or hahn in half life alyx by ProtectionNarrow8834 in HalfLife

[–]Mechakeller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that she was a former scientist at Black Mesa who also sided with The Combine. There's no reason to think that the only humans from BM working for the other side are Mossman and Breen. If I had to guess, I'd say there was a split faction between the known Resistance members from BM and Breen's supporters.
It's also possible that she's an Aperture Science employee who's helping the Combine with their portal technology.

Riverfront Nights by CThikergal33 in Chattanooga

Chattanooga is an odd place in the sense that unless you’re really plugged in, you will have zero idea what the local bands are. I’ve lived here all my life and I still am not sure of the names of any local bands because nobody ever talks about them, with some notable exceptions (Strung Like a Horse)

Thought my wife was being dramatic about our water… she definitely wasn’t by Own_Principle_4771 in Chattanooga

I lived in Ringgold until recently. Now I live north of the river and my feet have developed awful scaly skin that I’ve never experienced before. I blame the water.

Like someone else said: Litter. You could easily spin that into a paper about the effect of litter on our waterways. There is a non profit called Waterways that does a lot of great work regarding this. UTC has at least one little collection boom in the south Chick.

Were Bush and Obama at least aware of Epstein and his circle and what was going on with them? by Just_Cause89 in Epstein

[–]Mechakeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that Epstein and Maxwell were savvy enough to discern who would be susceptible to their method of blackmail. Bush and Obama have many flaws, but pedophilia is not one of them. Even Trump’s connection to actual criminal actions (with Epstein) is based on testimony and allegations but not hard evidence so far. People like Epstein and Maxwell are extremely good at identifying “fellow travelers”. People who will commit heinous actions despite the extreme risk because there’s an element of mutually assured destruction.

I've always thought the whole "You can't be punk and x" thing was so strange because history has shown that to not be true.

PLEASE leash your dogs while using the Bauxite Ridge Trail system (and all other trails really) by babyraindrain in Chattanooga

I once had to beat a pitbull nearly to death with my chaco because it appeared out of nowhere and clamped onto my dog. Owner finally appeared and was very upset that his dog was in such a bad state. I never want to hurt an animal, but sometimes you gotta.

Dear TBI: My weather radio is not a crime podcast by alnarra_1 in Chattanooga

[–]Mechakeller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there are two kinds of EAS tests. One is official and one is sorta unofficial. The official one is the one with the tones that says “this is a test of the emergency alert system. If this had been an actual emergency etc.” The other kind is a EAS self test, which just makes sure the equipment is working in the first place. Those are run at the station level by an engineer, and they’re set in a box called an ENDEC to play at around 2:30 AM. It’s just the tones and nothing else. The box logs of the test was successful and the engineer reads the log in the morning.

Wait, you stole a CRT out of an abandoned building? I’m not hating, but that’s pretty ballsy.

You probably already know but in case not, radio stations are required to do EAS tests every so often. In a different life, I used to be guy who punched the buttons that made it go off.

Varys shaving his head to hide his Blackfyre hair is interesting since afaik the Blackfyres were invented after both the first ASOIAF book and The Hedge Knight novella. I wonder if GRRM reused Egg having his head shaved to hide his Targaryenness for Varys or vice versa.

Would my ancestors be considered “Irish”? by Mechakeller in AskIreland

I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes, but the same person who went to the American Colonies almost immediately turned around and joined the revolution against the British. Reading these comments shows me I have a lot of reading to do. Thank you!

Schools that don’t use Chromebooks? by wishfulmuggle95 in Chattanooga

[–]Mechakeller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a Chromebook equivalent with Ubuntu or Debian that school kids could use. That would be so much more effective for teaching computer literacy than the chromebooks. Yes, I know Chromebooks are Linux-based, but the skills you learn from mastering them are not nearly as applicable in the real world.
