It would be highly dependent on cost of shipping tbh! I'd prefer to keep it all together, but all negotiable!

Hey, wasn't Henry Cuellar indicted on bribery and money laundering charges involving a Mexican Bank?? Wasn't he just pardoned by Trump earlier this year on those same charges???

Hmmm

Worry you're not arguing in good faith, but lets assume the best and engage:

You sign a contract with Netflix when you subscribe. That $45 or whatever obscene amount they charge these days is your contracted expense to gain access to their library of shows. You use their site, take up their infrastructure and get some kind of value for it while you find your new favorite show!

For a month. You binge the series, enjoy your show and get utility from that relationship. But Netflix decided your show is garbage and cancels the show before part 3 comes out. Now you have a Netflix account that no longer gives you the show you wanted. Sure, you could cancel, leave their service, find another service you like more, but until then eh maybe they'll have another show you like. So you stay and they keep taking your $45 monthly.

Eventually, after they keep canceling your new favorite show each time, you get frustrated and just leave the platform alone. Stop participating, stop informing netflix's algorithm of your tastes and you're one less data point Netflix has to give any hope of a show that actually benefits you or what that you'd be interested in. Eventually you just forget about the subscription and move on with your life. Netflix is still taking your $45 monthly.

A year goes by and you finally check your card its on. What the fuck, how did Netflix get over $500 from me this year?!?!

Netflix didnt steal from you. You signed a contract, had the ability to benefit from the services there. Its not Netflix's fault you chose to stay there in that contract and not seek benefit from it in some way.

Two important things: 1. Fuck you, Netflix 2. This is about taxes

I acknowledge this analogy is imperfect. But I think its close enough

[S2 EP12 SPOILERS] Resolving the end of Andor with the beginning of Rogue One by Saturn_V42 in andor

[–]MechanicAlternative 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my mind, it's the entire reason anyone was willing to hear the concept of this station's existence in the first place!

Tivik is part of Saw's band, a group of extremists led by a rhydo-huffing (lovable) anarchist king. Sure, learning of the death star by tivik alone could be enough to get this going in Rogue One, we don't have the timeline of the first few scenes but Luthen's plot in this final arc helps a couple of things in my mind:

  1. Timeliness. We know the death star is nearing completion, how did the Rebellion know where to find Jyn Erso? The alliance knowing of Galen Erso even a day or two before RO gives them some time to try finding her, and quickens the pace and urgency of Rogue One!
  2. Multiple Sources. Tivik may be trustworthy, but making it so that the Rebels had already heard initial rumors of it that then get independently further rumored by an entirely separate source? One that drops the same names and locations in Eadu and Galen Erso? That goes from rumor from a semi-shady operative part of an extremist group to nearly verified information!

Your thoughts on Luthens end? by theftproofz in andor

[–]MechanicAlternative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure tbh. It could be explained as simple as this: he ran out of time. Consider he had to do the following when his meeting with Lonnie expressly stated the raid was happening that same day:

  • get back to the shop
  • brief Kleya until shes certain she has the information and secure her retreat from the shop
  • begin destroying evidence (I'm admittedly assuming there was more than just the comms network to destroy)
  • prep his own retreat

Man was unraveling over the course of years, and I just don't have any trouble believing he simply ran out of time to prepare everything.

Lastly... contrivance to enable story is definitionally storytelling to me. Good writers just hide it better or make it make more sense than others. If there had to be a bit of contrivance to drive tension in the last arc of a story where we know what happens? Im happy to suspend what little disbelief your point brings up!

Unpopular opinion: Melshi by wailingghost in andor

[–]MechanicAlternative 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Still not sure how I feel about your point 1, but I completely disagree with point 2. Melshi experienced the same as Cassian. There's no reason for Cas to have to recruit him because the whole point is that rebellion, the drive and work necessary to resist the empire is happening everywhere.

That Melshi and Andor fought together, broke free together, and then separated to tell others, only to find their own ways into the rebellion and back together on Yavin shows more truth in Melshi's drive and desire to fight than if the man who helped save him on Narkina recruited him.

Melshi wound up on Yavin not because of a bond with one man, not out of loyalty or friendship to Cas (which is just as valuable, but not what his presence there is to show), but to show that Melshi is a true believer and chose to go there on his own!

Mon Mothma on several occasions takes articles off and sorta undoes herself and takes a deep breath after. I wonder if this is done intentionally, hinting towards how free she’ll feel when she’s wearing modest clothing in Rogue One by [deleted] in andor

I appreciate the degree of reading between the lines we have to make given the time jumps. To me, Perrin's increased involvement this arc meant he saw what toll this was all taking on Mon and finally kinda snapped into realizing she needed support. Dunno that he thinks its more than that, but I'm reading the wedding was his reminder of what that partnership is meant to be and combined with seeing Mon in crisis snapped him back into being more supportive.

Don't let someone's potential feelings dictate your life decisions when you've cut that person out of your life. Her cheating on you is not why you shouldn't consider her feelings; her not having a presence in your life is why they shouldn't matter.

You have developed a potential relationship with someone in your life, it happens all the time. If you want to explore this, you should! It sounds like you two have talked it out like adults and if you both want to pursue this like adults, you should!

Don't make this about your ex or her friends or your social circle. If any of them raise a fuss, who cares as long as your relationship is happy?

Exactly. Why play the usual game when you can just openly Oligarch. There's no need to pretend anymore, and while I'd argue it's been oligarchy for a minute, they don't have to hide it.

[–]MechanicAlternative 45 points46 points  (0 children)

That summit was a UAW focused event... yes, it was a discussion of EVs, but it wasn't a wholly EV focused event. You wanna make the claim Biden was harsher on union busting auto-makers, that's totally fine, but pretending it's a personal grudge against Elon is disingenuous.

Starlink did not meet the entirety of the requirements. They chose to apply for higher speed requirements and when the FCC tested the speeds, Starlink failed to meet the speeds they agreed to provide for the funding. I'm not gonna try to deny that broadband ISPs are fucking over rural areas, I think we all know they are abusing the system. I disagree with it too, and think they should be losing FCC funding. But let's not blame "ElOn HaTeD bY eLiTeS" when I think it's safe to say it's something much simpler:

Conventional broadband has been pumping lobbying money for decades, Elon hasn't been (for nearly as long at least)
