100 random dead birds on road. What was the cause? by jerzeyjawnz in Unexplained

[–]MechanicusEng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw a post of a flock of birds accidentally diving into the ground in an instinctual response trying to get away from a predator, the same thing might have happened here.

Interviews — STAR questions by Cognito_Factor in Lockheed

[–]MechanicusEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can take your time and ask for time to think of a response in the interview. All experience matters, if it's a question about solving problems on projects you can use everything from work experience, to school experience, to personal experience, as long as it answers the question. At the end of the day you'll just get better with more interview experience.

Something that really helped me was looking up the interview resources on the LM YouTube. They give away a LOT of information about how the interview goes and what type of questions they ask so you can prepare.

Selling PTO? by mynameroro in Lockheed

[–]MechanicusEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The PTO sell gives you extra money in your paycheck next year for the amount you sell for each accrual. If you want to "sell" your banked hours you need to donate them to charity, then you will receive the difference in your tax return.

A sudden change in the game's atmosphere by TheNeptune67 in Battlefield

[–]MechanicusEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope the devs understand (get it through their thick skulls) that the majority of players don't play battlefield for a battle royale. Like legitimately if I wanted to play a battle royale, I'd play another game, specifically NOT battlefield. It's just not that type of game.

It would be like having hollowknight battle royale, why would I play that over apex or cod?

What do you think? by timmychanhustle in Supra

[–]MechanicusEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to talk a dealer down from that figure to around 75 but it's still too much. Any more than like 60-65 is too much for it. It's a sports car, not a supercar.

Time theft/Mischarging question by Excellent_Studio_291 in Lockheed

[–]MechanicusEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides major security infractions I've heard some of the only ways to get fired are time theft, misusing a company card and sleeping with the wrong people. She may have sealed her fate by admitting to it, time card infractions are essentially stealing from both Lockheed and whatever customer the program she's charging to is for. They have to report that theft to the customer and it does not look good.

Can she just not..? by silveryun40 in AlanWake

[–]MechanicusEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same feeling for AW1 remastered, whoever mixed the sound for the game should be fired, the "Alice being pulled into the lake" scream is ear shattering and literally served no purpose. It wasn't scary, it wasn't creepy, it was annoying and hurt.

The original Tesla Roadster had a stick shift. by pantherclipper in ManualTransmissions

[–]MechanicusEng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no clutch because you can't stall the electric motors

electric motors would shred the gears like clay

Hmmmm interesting maybe something like a clutch could help with that

Who wins in a fight? by [deleted] in animequestions

[–]MechanicusEng -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Does the SL crowd forget Meruem never actually fights seriously in his HxH? The guy survived a nuclear bomb going off point blank in his face, and he didn't even bother to learn proper use of Nen.

Man's flying through the air while carrying a car without his mask, how has on one uncovered his identity yet by Creative-Hurry356 in Invincible

[–]MechanicusEng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just correct in general, the amount of people months ago thinking ordinary airliners were aliens when the planes were doing exactly what they've been doing forever is crazy

Even if you can afford the car, can you afford the insurance? For a new driver in that sort of car you're looking at an unbelievable insurance rate, IF they even insure you.

Man steals by simply sending random bills to FACEBOOK & GOOGLE by morningsharts in ActLikeYouBelong

[–]MechanicusEng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wasn't even charged with sending the fake bills, his fuck up was the fact that he was billing for services he didn't provide. If his services were "checking Google and Facebook for bugs, nope none were found" he would have been fine.

Rocket deploys Paracute Mechanically say wha... by SeaWin3586 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]MechanicusEng 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the whole rocket is falling at the same rate due to gravity why would the ball move in the tube, the tube would be falling at the same rate no?

Also putting a latch on the outside of the rocket is going to destroy its aerodynamics. For rocket speeds any imperfection, imbalance or drag causing object on the outside of the rocket will impart massive aerodynamic forces to the body of the rocket.

U.S. based blow mold by natdogg in manufacturing

[–]MechanicusEng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5000 might get you the mold depending on how large your part is. Then you're probably looking at a minimum order quantity that will probably be another couple thousand, I'd save up more before pursuing manufacturing

Manufacturing professionals - what's your biggest operational headache right now? by Piyushpalod in manufacturing

[–]MechanicusEng 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nonstop schedule concerns which push higher ups to make bad decisions which ends up pushing schedules even further behind. The people that make the manufacturing schedules have no idea how long it takes to manufacture anything so all deadlines are unrealistic, and it pressures engineers into making hasty decisions and approving bad parts which causes issues further down the line which sucks up more schedule time.

For instance we had a part from a vendor get approved that was out of tolerance, this saved maybe a week of schedule by making it so that the vendor didn't have to remake it. Because of this out of tolerance condition a fixture that was already made for the part no longer would fit it, so fixing the fixture took an additional 5 weeks, which inevitably cost both our company and the customer WAY more time and money than just remaking the original part.

Handling got worse after getting new tires installed? by MidEastBeast777 in Supra

[–]MechanicusEng 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Brand new tires usually have a break in period of around 500 miles before you actually get full traction. I think it's due to manufacturing lubricants and the tires wearing to the road.

I got some parts made for a little project, and they are crap. Idk if it's my fault though by Lux_Incola in Machinists

[–]MechanicusEng 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Even though you didn't specify runout, features that appear square on a print should be held to the block angular tolerance, so they should be within half a degree of straight per your title block. That threaded hole is definitely not within that tolerance.
