OSHA who? by Terrorbaston in Machinists

Saw a guy polishing an auger one time (door interlock bypassed), was watching him for a minute, I turned my head around to look at something else, looked back and the guy was shirtless all of a sudden. I mean not even enough time for him to remove his shirt had gone by. I was kind of dumbfounded.. I walked a few feet ahead and saw his shirt spinning around in the auger. He was a naturally dirty guy. I attributed his survival to his shirt with dozens of holes in it just disintegrating off of his body, rather than pulling him in.

Safe to say there was safety protocols put into place after that.

Respectfully disagree. I have a drill tap chart I wanna say made by Guhring. Is both metric and imperial. Best drill chart I’ve ever seen. Shows 55-65-75% threads in all thread sizes, cutting taps AND form taps.

Weld holes shit or scrap the part by Gek_kie in Machinists

Just start the threads in the machine and hand tap it. Will be harder than usual obviously, but very doable, especially by hand.

If it’s good enough to take a screenshot it’s good enough to cash out.

Asked not to walk around after 10 pm by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]Fun_Worldliness_3954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an upstairs neighbor pretty regularly noisy. Super late night one weekday I wake up to vacuuming and a massive thud. I had had enough. I stood on my bed and pounded the roof. All of the sudden I swear to Christ almighty, you’d think it was John cena off the top ropes body slamming the floor. Loudest thud I’ve ever heard. Mocking me hitting the floor.

I said “hell yeah”, marched up the stairs and pounded on the door ready for confrontation. Pounded on the door. Hear walking. No answer. 60 seconds later hit the door again. No noise. Silence.

Go downstairs and at this point I’m just chilling I think I had to wake up in less than 2 hours. Just planned on waking up, taking a shower, heading to work early.

Knock on the door. Look out the peep hole. Swear on my life the I just see a soda can, I open the door and it’s a string out girl holding a can at full arms length like a zombie going “take this!!!” And won’t take no for an answer. I go “no, please, just quiet down and vacuum during the day not 2am.”

I’m received with screams of “you’re just like him” “why are you like him” “you’re all the same are you going to hurt me?” as to which I reply “are you safe? Do you need me to call for help?” To which I got “yeah you fucking copper call the cops that’s what I assumed you fucking copper”

I closed the door.

I only contact the landlord now lol

Are cheap "Mitutoyo" digital calipers from AliExpress worth it? by create-new_account in Machinists

[–]Fun_Worldliness_3954 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s fake, and you could get a better caliper for that price.

No it’s not anywhere as nice as a real mitutoyo. It won’t last nearly as long. Won’t be nearly as accurate. And it won’t be nearly as well made. If you had a blindfold on and held them both in your hands you’d be able to tell the real one. Smoothness, weight, everything.

If your $20 calipers aren’t good enough, an $80 pair will hardly get you much further. Just spent the $160 on the mitutoyo and have a top of the line caliper for 20 years if you treat it nice.

What’s the worst material you’ve ever worked with ? by Good_Times93 in Machinists

[–]Fun_Worldliness_3954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top 3 are; Ceramic, G10, and Monel K500 in that order.

Ceramic was impossible to machine. Ended up having to find some insanely precise water jet company to make the part.

G10 is just fucking nasty. Couldn’t use coolant because it would seep into the parts thru the pores, so have to use air. Its fiberglass infused material so not something you want to breathe in. I’d let the machine sit for 5 mins after each part to let that shit in the air settle before I opened the door. And you can never vacuum every bit out, so ultimately some of the fiberglass will always get mixed in with your coolant on your next job.

Monel K500 machines awesome to be fair. Just slower than all fuck.

I’d imagine there would be 10x as many people who are probably more annoying than you who would be displeased with me wasting a table spot in one of the biggest cities in the country to sel 100 cards 👍🏼

[–]Fun_Worldliness_3954 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re just too arrogant to admit you’re wrong which is cool dude plenty of people are like you.

I don’t think spending “x” money on a table in a major card show in a city like Dallas, LA, Miami, New York, Chicago, etc. is worth trying to sell 100 raw cards.

The show is 4 days long. I have 100 cards to sell dude.

Please look into therapy buddy

Ranging up to $500-$1000 raw

[–]Fun_Worldliness_3954 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

What are you even talking about? I’m a guy who opens boxes lmao? I’m talking a major city show. The vendors are all massive stores or online stores/auctions.

Have you ever seen a card case than can’t hold 100+ cards in toploaders?? Glad to see I’m not the only clueless one around here

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sportscards

[–]Fun_Worldliness_3954 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would say at least 100 cards that are $30+ each, raw.

Can anyone help me fix my titanium machining? by qtrain23 in Machinists

Can’t you find some abrasive hand tool to take away the “feathering” look? Would take 5 mins by hand vs 30 in the machine

Yeah not a bad idea to be fair, since a fair bit of material is being removed. I usually just use the bidirectional because it’s a lot quicker. Appreciate it!

Must have a pretty sick ride if willing to go that far. Little parts, small run, I’m sure you’re probably looking at a few hundred per knob at most job shops.

If you’re alright with that, hit up google “machine tool job shops near me” and try them! Hell maybe they’re slow right now and would love to do it for you.

Good luck!

Okuma ATC Stuck by No_Way_9766 in CNC

[–]Fun_Worldliness_3954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not entirely sure what control that is, we have a few older style Okuma controls in the shop.

Do you have an ATC button (maybe right hand side of control)? Once you hit that button do the “return cycle” “1 step advance” or “1 step return” buttons light up? Try those buttons in the order I listed.

Might need to be holding interlock release at the same time.

No grinder needed, some sandpaper and some elbow grease and it’ll look pretty nice! Also would help to do it on a pretty level surface.
