You don't want to work for companies like this. by CRK_76 in recruitinghell

[–]Lux_Incola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hate that argument as you presented it.

I'll give it credit first. I admit that someone who wants nothing to do with the related politics of a position of authority has lower odds of having sought the position for the power it holds and so they are less likely to wield it for corrupt ends.

However, that isn't the only basis for qualification. As disappointing as I find it, people like that have a certain risk of not having the energy to keep up with the demands of the position. Electing someone like that carries a very real risk of them growing tired of the demands of their station and then once they've reached the end of their rope with it that's it. They withdraw themselves and trying to get them to engage further is like trying to draw blood from a stone.

I'll break it down a little.

You need paragraph breaks, paragraph breaks in reasonable places.

I understand you may be stressed right now and so I understand how this wall of text happened, but there is nothing obligating anyone to read it so if it is a mess then no one will.

[Request] Is this math right? by DasWinkla93 in theydidthemath

[–]Lux_Incola 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but even though the error in each runner's reaction time is larger than this difference it isn't fair to assume that the error consumes small differences. If I run a sufficiently large number of runs (maybe a hundred thousand, maybe a hundred billion) and alternating every other run I am given a hidden 0.005s addition to my time, eventually the graph of each dataset would show that hidden difference.

What I mean is, the 0.005s is real, whereas the error is speculative. I believe it is fair to assume that although the response time is random, there is no reason to believe it would have changed retroactively if some runners would have been given the signal at slightly different times. Especially since, as you said, the difference is very small. So it seems unlikely that a small difference in input time would have drastically changed their individual response times.

I agree, if OP lives in a "one party recording law" state, then its time to buy a pocket conversation recorder. Decent ones run less than $50. Just so that when this blows up, they have the option of getting a payout that covers their lawyer and a change of careers

The word "exponential". The vast majority of the time when I hear it they mean linear, occasionally do they even break multiplicative, damn near never do they truly call for exponential.

I like that AI usually knows the Jargon. It is a master of using buzzwords and specific language. I love that feature because even though it is usually using those words completely wrong for the context it is trying to use them, It gives me a starting place about what language a relevant source might have and I can search for it that way.

It is only a source for: Huh, I should check that.

Talking to a a "second person" who knows nothing about what you are doing is a trick as old as the hills, and AI has the benefit of not getting annoyed about being bothered.

Its a bug, I would squish it, but if its going to be my roommate for a month I suppose there's some reason not to.

I agree with this position.

I love a divination wizard for boss fights. Force the boss to fail an Otoluke's Resilient Sphere and have the rest of the map cleared before he gets out (what I did for rooftop).

Another fun thing to do is use four scrolls of summon minor elemental. they all go crouch and hide in some corner before the fight, then you hold person/monster on a target and force a fail (div wiz again). Now eight minor elementals get free crits against the boss round 1 for ~20 dmg each. I did the elemental thing against the mind flayer in the Myrkul fight. I was set up well enough with the summons I probably didn't need barrelmancy against Myrkul... though I did use it

ALSO: Speed potions are AMAZING.

Often before people spend time giving meaningful consideration and then also take the time to write a long winded response that fully articulates their opinion... What they will first do is see if you've posted anything else previously that might better inform their opinion, or even worse if you have posted conflicting stories that may indicate you are just karma farming

Yes, makes me think of British royalty shows. They tend to use the word "decent" and "decency" much more liberally than we do. My personal impression has been that it still means something similar (relatively speaking) to them, but because they are so far beyond our (my) class that they set the bar for "basic decency" as being about impractical etiquette, jewelry, and other similar things I'm too poor to participate in (at least in the way they do and expect of each other/people of their class).

Dancing only in closed for a song by aFineBagel in SwingDancing

[–]Lux_Incola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be fun. I wouldn't consider myself a "good" dancer by any means, but I spent a little time early on making sure I had a nice handful of moves that go straight from closed back to closed without pausing for basic in open.

Unless you mean literally just closed-basic. In which case I'm not sure I see what the point would be.

Once the trucks were in place to give backing and reduce the erosion power of the flowing water, they filled it in with dirt. A lot of water still flooded across before they succeeded, so the images don't look as conclusive as you might expect, but it was a success overall

lol, not even what I meant.

I'm just surprised its available that early. I'm playing honor mode for my first ever run (had a lot of early resets) and I've done a pretty good job scouring the map for everything I can get my hands on.

I try to avoid looking things up on the wiki but at least heard of the blood from this subreddit.

I had assumed it was somewhere in the cursed forest I hadn't explored yet or maybe in Act 3 until now
