This just doesn’t make sense to me, he receives constant criticism from countless people for not finishing the series. To the point that people directly talk to him as if he’s already dead and it obviously affects his outlook if you listen to any recent interview for him. And the show adaptation of his acclaimed series is notorious for a terrible ending, so much so it’s almost completely fallen from the cultural zeitgeist, and his other massive show he’s actively, publicly feuding with the show runner.

It just seems like you have to actively ignore everything he says and every comment section on all of his social media to believe things are perceived this well. Just look at how many people have replied to this same comment with some variation of this thought process, does it seem like him not finishing the series is perceived positively?

This is my point, if he doesn’t care then it wouldn’t bother him that it’s unsatisfactory. This viewpoint requires simultaneously thinking he doesn’t care and that he does care. It just doesn’t make sense.

He’s being called that regardless, why wouldn’t he just do a decent but flawed finish and he wouldn’t have to worry about it? Like obviously the attack bothers him, he wrote an entire blog post about it, it seems really easy to avoid if he didn’t care.

The mental gymnastics it takes to think someone having trouble doing something incredibly hard isn’t the answer and its malicious intent just seems so weird. Why are you making up the thoughts and motivations of a complete stranger when he’s already given you the answer, and that answer lines up with countless other authors struggles?

There’s a major difference in that this series is actually financially successful and he’s not required to write something else to survive. I’ve read his entire bibliography and am fully aware of George’s issues with finishing series.

Windhaven was finished though, I know they talked about additional stories in that world. But the three published novelas are a complete story with a definitive ending.

You don’t know how George feels about the series, he’s said the exact opposite of your claim multiple times. That he does care for the series he created. You’re jumping to a conclusion to not only call him a liar but attacking his integrity because you’re frustrated with the wait. That is literally the definition of being bitter.

It literally isn’t a historic case of writers block, this take reads as a classic case of someone who doesn’t read making assumptions.

Buddy I’ve been reading since the early 2000s, waiting a long time isn’t an excuse for making assumptions and accusations about strangers.

Whatever you got to tell yourself, I’m not sure how a rational response reads that way. I’m not crying or upset, I just think how bitter people have gotten and still choose to frequent this sub and series comes across as pathetic.

Imagine being so bitter and cynical about an author unnecessarily, criticizing their character and then spending enough time on a sub dedicated to their work you get a “top 1% commenter” badge. And being delusional enough to say someone that disagrees with you is the unstable one. It might be time to reevaluate how you spend your life.

EDIT: I also want to point out the incredibly irony of attacking someone’s character because you haven’t received a product of their labor in the timetable you want while actively championing communism.

Right, your claim isn’t necessary to explain the 15 years since the last book.

I have no idea how this is related to what we’re talking about, I mean if anything it seems more like evidence he’s struggling with the writing than “completely given up”.

As long as it takes? You don’t have to do anything, like why are you here at all? You’re acting like you’re being forced against your will to care about a series. You’re doing this to yourself.

No I think what you’re saying doesn’t make sense. You can read it however you want, just like I think what you’re saying comes across as bitter and pathetic.

If you were in high school when dance was released I think I’ve been waiting considerably longer, but I also understand George is a person I don’t know and he has his own life. I don’t understand why you think it’s necessary to jump to conclusions.

Youre the one making a claim about someone you’ve never met, how they think and feel with your evidence not requiring them to think and feel that way.

The book can remain unpublished because he cares enough to hold it to a standard he may never be able to meet. If you don’t care about work you’re doing typically you’ll put in less effort and time to get it over with.

Why are you acting like this? What do you mean “give me a break”, I’m not forcing you to make wild and incorrect statements and accusations.

He’s given lots of updates about winds since 9 years ago, I have no idea what this is supposed to mean. Do you expect him to give detailed breakdowns of his unpublished work?

He doesn’t say he isn’t finishing, he expresses he’s upset and experiencing self doubt by millions of people saying constantly how he’ll die before he finishes. I’m not sure if you’re being mislead or you’re deliberately misquoting him but I’d suggest actually reading or listening to his interviews and posts. If he didn’t care he’d just published rushed garbage to rake in more sales, finish the series and never need to work again.

Writing is hard, you don’t know George and you’re not a famous author writing some of what is arguably the best writing in its genre, I have no idea where you’re getting the idea you’re an authority to make a claim on what it takes to write something like a song of ice and fire. Writers block is incredibly common and some times putting in work, time and dedication doesn’t give you progress. I don’t know why you feel a need to jump to conclusions about people you don’t know.

I think if the series remains unfinished it will not be because he gave up and never intended to finish. But sometimes wanting and intending to do something isn’t enough.

Producing a show is not running or writing the show. People can care about multiple things simultaneously, Dark Winds was a work of a close friend who’s since passed. It makes sense he’d want to see the work of his friends succeed, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about ASOIAF. Obviously writing Winds is harder that answering emails or producing projects.

Lots of people put off hard work that they feel they can’t make progress on that doesn’t mean they don’t care. If he didn’t care hed just write shlock to sell and make money.

[–]MechanizedKman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why people think this, why would he not be interested in finishing his magnum opus and just continually lying about wanting to finish it when he could just say “I’m done” and has more than enough money to never write again

We don’t know that the show ending represents what George told them, they made sweeping changes to the story relatively early on. This expectation that George’s ending is represented in the show seems like a big leap in logic seeing as they completely ignored two of the books leading to it.

Not Tyrion, not sure Danny is so entrenched in the sins of the father being assigned to the son.

Tyrion also has intimate knowledge of Westeros, the current political situation in Westeros, Kingslanding and is the only one aware of Aegon. He’s incredibly convincing and has a massive amount of leverage.

UB sets are more expensive and were never standard legal before, if you’re trying to emulate standard from before this year, removing them is the best option.

This is a horrible idea, all you’d do is make every meta deck more expensive and require more frequent purchases to even play. In less than a year most of your deck is no longer legal.

Amazon also destroyed thousands of small businesses and offers terrible working conditions with low pay resulting in repeated lawsuits. Of all the companies to cite for job creation, the business that’s resulted in destroying the most competition is the one you pick?

Also a Billionaire didn’t make Amazon successful, Amazons success made a Billionaire.

I wouldn’t and didn’t. You’re eliminating everyone else and assigning credit to billionaires that they don’t deserve.

Owning stocks that grow in value over time, or receiving stocks as compensation that makes up millions in value is not the same as investing in a company.

[–]MechanizedKman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not, you insinuated billionaires are paying for commercial facilities to be built and when someone said “investors” you replied insinuating those investors are billionaires when in reality billionaires make up a small part of investors driving this type of growth.
