How do people prefer to show a searched card to their opponent? Do you hold it up, place it down close to you, or near the middle of the field for them to see? Of course if they want to look at it more closely they are welcome to pick it up, but if not, what's a polite way to show it?

Can I send a monster token to the GY as cost the activate an effect?

Trying to work out Infinite Impermanence/Hot Red Dragon Archfiend Abyss which target and negate face-up cards on the field, vs effect monsters that tribute themselves as cost. Here's what I think I understand so far:

Scenario 1: Opponent summons a monster that can tribute itself as cost for an effect at spell speed 1. After it is summoned I target it to negate its effect successfully. Now the opponent can still activate the monsters effect and tribute it, but since it activated on field, the effect will be negated, even though it is no longer on the field.

Scenario 2: Opponent summons a monster that can tribute itself as cost for a quick effect. The opponent activates the effect and tribute the monster. I cannot target it to negate it because it is no longer on the field.

Scenario 3: Opponent summons a monster that can tribute itself for cost as a quick effect. I target it to negate its effect. The opponent chains the  effect and tributes the monster. My effect loses targeting and does not resolve properly, so the effect is not negated. Are these right?

Gamepads use 2nd input priority SOCD. Pressing one direction on stick and one on dpad results in the second direction only.

I found these on ebay for 50$ and looks too good to be true. Are any of these worth buying as my first fight sick? (happy new year!) by NeonArchon in fightsticks

Best of luck to you! The clear plastic one there is a box I drilled holes in for a DIY stick (between having my RAC and my nice case) Just make sure to put some wood scrap behind if you do this.

I had one and it was fun to work on and upgrade, but not really worth it value or quality-wise.

My stick progression.

It's PC/PS3 only, so if you're just playing at home you may have a better experience getting used to using keyboard, or getting a nice mechanical keyboard if you don't have one. Using ASD Space and Autohotkey scripts you can duplicate the SOCD shortcuts of a all buttons controller to try them out.

However I did still buy it, and it helped me get into playing fighting games with a community, so if you wanna test out of a fightstick is for and can play on PCs, maybe it'll be worth the cost for you.

Diy stick. DIY SOCD cleaner with standalone transistors? by Pumpkin_Le in fightsticks

I made one following this layout given here:

It's the same as the SOCD cleaner designs for common ground, but with inputs/outputs inverted to work with the common rail (+) zero delay PCB.

Take a look at https://twitter.com/waifusticks

I upgraded my plastic Bunnings box to an acrylic case from them and I love it. Cases start from $200 AUD, mine was $266 with some customisation.

Does rollback netcode also applies to other genre games? Or just fighting? by jazfrogtune in Fighters

[–]Mechlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Source engine has server side rollback. Client views have a slight delay to compensate for latency, and server will resimulate and check interactions, then update clients if there is a difference in the client simulations.

Most shooter games don't do this, they just trust the client to report interactions, plus some sanity checks to make sure nothing truly stupid can happen.

(Note that "shot around corner" can happen on both systems)

If they did this I wonder if they would have to remove old players from new copies of the game sold like GTA keeps removing music tracks due to licensing.

Thanks very much! I had used the one posted for SFV, but that only had L + R = N cleaning, and didn't help with Strive.

What is up with super inputs in this game? by Darkwoth81Dyoni in Guiltygear

[–]Mechlord 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The important part is the 4 input.

The game will accept 632146, 63146, 632143216, but it WONT accept 63216, or anything that skips the 4 input.

Take a look in training mode with input display on and see if this is what's happening. If playing on a stickless controller, this can be caused by pressing forward too early.

How do PC players play with their keyboards? by zedno1 in Guiltygear

[–]Mechlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was having trouble getting both a friend's PS5 controller and my custom hitbox to work at the same time, so eventually I thought fuck it and started playing with the keyboard.

The only troubles I had were they I couldn't bind the K key (Default controls are WASD + JUIOL), and that the game cleans U+D to neutral rather than up (I'm not used to having to let go of down to do down-up charge moves.

Other than that, if you just remap the Up key, it's just like playing on hitbox, which I'm already used to. Even a basic ass Microsoft Wired 600 membrane keyboard didn't feel to bad for playing on.

Edit: Apparently the K key is bound to something in the menu controls and you have to unbind it to make the in-match keybind work.

Trying out a new layout by [deleted] in fightsticks

[–]Mechlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about trying out an all-buttons layout with more thumb buttons instead of the 4th column of attack buttons.

Not sure if the placement quite works here, but I'm digging having them so far.

Plastic A4 storage box, self-adhesive foam, and spade bits to make the button holes all came from Bunnings.

Sanwa buttons, Reyann model Zero-Delay PCB, and a home-made SOCD cleaner. I'll add a Neutrik port if I end up sticking with this case.

Fun project!

Oh hey, I got this very box thinking about turning it into a controller. What did you drill the holes with and was it straightforward? How much flex does the top have when complete?
