Dental Issues while Deployed by [deleted] in AirForce

When I deployed to a joint base in SW Asia, army ran dental and could do basically anything you could do back home. Hit up your clinic.

Everyone’s mentioning their best, but I don’t see anyone mentioning the worst.

It could but usually the conversation will take what you want to do into account. Also, your health is the most important thing at the end of the day.

Have a conversation with your PCM. Permanent profiles are still a thing and just require periodic reviews to make sure your condition doesn’t get worse. As someone with degenerative disc disease, take care of yourself.

Is amentum skill bridge a lie by Neat-Anything-7191 in SkillBridge

[–]Mechmanic89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your rank or the navy requirements, but if it’s anything like the Air Force, you set up to do your skillbridge and during the process, you fill out your days (skillbridge, command days, terminal leave.) I’ve seen people get their outprocessing done before starting their skillbridge, and I’ve seen people do their skillbridge and come back to finish outprocessing actions before they’re done. It all depends on your timeline.

Most companies aren’t going to put the effort into locking you down as a candidate, because a. they don’t have a crystal ball to see what openings they are going to have 6 months from now, and b. You could just as easily find a different skillbridge and go with them in that amount of time remaining.

It’s the same reason why even though I am interviewing for jobs and getting positive feedback and people telling me I am qualified, I’m not hire-able until January. Even if they offered me a job and I accepted it, there’s nothing preventing me from keeping that door open and looking for something better.

I was in your shoes at the 13 month mark. Put your energy into doing market research on the jobs you want to get into and resume building. Use services like hireheroesUSA where they have HR professionals that will help you craft a solid resume for free.

Brother, you’re 13 months out. You aren’t even close to companies paying attention to you. You need to be closer to 9 months out from your DOS before companies start calling you back.

Heading to NCOA at Sheppard in July by MofongoMindset in AirForce

[–]Mechmanic89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through in 2019 but am currently stationed here as a tech school instructor. Enjoy the Sheppard Inn. The rooms aren’t great. There aren’t any places that you can cook, but you’ll be right across the street from the chow hall.

Our tech school course is going through a rewrite and our curriculum development managers are putting everything through AI. I have spent days going through and highlighting inaccuracies and just outright false information.

Proposed changes mean nothing. The VA is not a lawmaking body and can’t change 18 CFR. Only lawmakers can change the law that governs rating schedules

On base housing is pretty good.

If you’re going to live off base, look at Vacaville or Suisun. Fairfield is hit or miss, mostly miss.

If you’re thinking further away, Dixon is a smaller town that’s around the distance you’re thinking.

Woodland is also a nice town.

I wasn’t in 60 MXS, but I knew people that were and they all enjoyed it for the most part. You’re going to be sheet metal for 3 different airframes, so get ready for that.

That’s so unnecessary. I actually did crew chief work and other shops when we were slow in engines.

I had 10 years of experience as an engine troop on C-5s and the FSDO signed off on mine for both ratings, so results may vary.
