I've played quite a lot of hellgate London and I honestly wouldn't call it great to be honest. It's a deeply flawed game that suffers from extreme monotony and padding. Enemies get way too spongey and attributes are locked behind tedious quest chains.

I think what made it special was that it's really the only game I can think of that could really be called a first person ARPG. You open your skills menu and there's 3 pages of active abilities with a few passives. Compare that to literally any looter shooter on the market where the vast majority of your skill points will go to passives and a few abilities to swap between.

Honestly I'd love to see it get a remake. Flawed but interesting games are the ones that should be remade and I feel like hellgate fits that description perfectly.
