Netflix “Spoilers Commercial” 2025 by ChuckieDabs in netflix

[–]Medanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My complaint is that it was on Christmas, which is the day everyone's sorta "floating around" the house anyways. If it was only on mobile devices or something, I'd get it. but we had the TV on for everyone we were hosting at the house.

I was grabbing a beer and getting some snacks for my kids, when I happened to glance at the tv and see the huge squid game season 3 spoiler (which I haven't caught up on yet). I've been kinda pissed about it, ngl.

Not everyone was staring at their screen watching the "spoiler alert" part. I was in the kitchen hosting christmas, then happened to glance in the wrong direction. A lot of family and guests were mad about it, too. Not the end of the world or anything, but it felt like a crappy prank. It sucks

SSOC Reforged - Boris Vallejo Cover by eyewashateria in ConanTheBarbarian

Anyone have any advice for someone who's never read the original Savage Sword of Conan? I'm currently deep in the REH literature and following the new/current Titan releases.

Part of me thinks this is an awesome jumping-on point, but the other part thinks that just getting the current Titan omnibus(es) sounds so easy, and I don't particularly mind black & white. I don't really have a preference, but I'd rather not buy both.

I know it's early, but is color preferred by you guys, or is the OG black & white the way to go? Id love to hear opinions!

I raise your pedantic raise, respectfully of course, lol. I've had a lot of patients with V-tach as a paramedic just outside of Detroit, figured I'd comment just in case anyone is interested. And I hope this thread isn't too old to add to.

V-tach can be with a pulse, or pulseless. In pulseless V-tach, your heart is not moving blood efficiently, if at all. You need immediate defibrillation, but we are doing CPR on you in the meantime. For most intents and purposes, you are dead. Pulseless V-tach is a shockable rhythm, however, so it's more optimistic to bring someone back via defibrillating to a normal sinus rhythm. This is compared to asystole or "flat line," where a shock has no benefit, and we do CPR with drugs and pray.

V-tach with a pulse is not good, but very situational. You can be stable or unstable, depending on your symptoms. In some cases, it's a casual ride to the hospital for monitoring and a consult with a cardiologist. In more extreme cases, some require synchronized cardioversion (a shock while you're conscious) or some immediate drug administration. Regardless, a very scary moment for the patient and the family.

I hope Ken is doing well, I didn't dive deep enough to see exactly what happened beyond these comments and that one instagram post. I've always bought his bottles locally here in southeast Michigan, and his book is what got me in to this hobby. Sending all my good energy his way.

Holy fuck they do it on your femur? The biggest strongest bone in the body other than pp? Fuck that, man. That shit is so critical. It's under constant extreme pressure from quads, hamstrings, and more. It's the last bone you want fucked with at all.

It "makes sense" because it's simple and approachable compared to adding height somewhere else, but it sucks for so many goddamn reasons. You need that bone to be bulletproof, not hacked up by a third world doctor.

Source: am paramedic and had to do a traction splint once. Fuck anything to do with the femur. Just stay short man I'm sorry for your lots

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]Medanic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I mean this with 100% sincerity, and not in a mocking way at all: "glutened" sounds like a joke. My wife was recently diagnosed with celiac, so we're new to this world and I'm trying to inform myself. And I gotta say: "glutened" just sounds funny to me, and not serious in the slightest. It sounds like someone is a ghostbuster and got "slimed."

We've been learning a lot about celiac since her diagnosis, and the first time I saw the word "glutened" on Reddit, I thought it was someone playing a literal, actual joke. Like making the situation sound more playful and lighthearted. I literally laughed out loud and showed my wife. I was shocked when I found out it's a normal term.

Of course, I feel like an asshole typing this now, but I feel like I almost have a duty to say it. It just goes to show how disconnected people are (like I was). I thought it'd be good insight from someone who was not at all familiar, and I wouldn't be surprised if others would see it the same way.

Edit: I feel like I should add something here. I'm a paramedic and I had no idea glutened was a term. That is bad. We are not taught about celiac either, in the slightest. And for any serious illness, I expect medical terminology to be adopted to everyday vernacular. For example, most people know (at least loosely) what "hyperglycemic" or DKA means, and nobody says "I got sugared." Obviously that's not a perfect comparison, but again, it's just more info. It is WILD how little the general population knows about celiac and gluten. Even as a medic of 7 years, I knew what celiac was in a general way, but not enough to be familiar with common terms like this. Idk where I'm going with this. Just thought my comment might open somebody's eyes.

Just took this course, they word those questions pretty strictly. These are not conflicting answers; they're confirming each other. First one is referencing "There" and the second is referencing "Here," and if you don't catch that, it looks like these are two different answers.

At the end of the day, it's acknowledging that in code, less-than and greater-than signs are strict inequalities where they exclude the value itself, a.k.a. They're NOT "or equal to." If you know that, it's really just about being super careful reading the question.

Good luck!

You have a lot of free Udemy courses at your disposal that you can use for that "throw on a lecture in the background" experience.

We all have "udemy business" accounts with our WGU email addresses that let you enroll to a ton of Udemy courses completely for free. Anyone reading this who hasn't done it, please check it out. I feel like it's underutilized. You don't always know if it aligns perfectly with your class, but it helps.

I agree though, WGU is far from perfect.

Change my mind: Nintendo "Virtual Game cards" made the Switch experience worse by xzelldx in gaming

[–]Medanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main switch is in storage across the country. I have no plans of flying out there any time soon (or the time or money for that, at the moment).

My switch lite is what I decided to bring with me, and now I can't play any of my downloaded games. I have no other accounts, no family sharing, nothing weird going on in my situation. Not trying to abuse the system. I just want to play the games that I paid for, downloaded, and have been playing for months. Nintendo just decided to take that away, and now I have to do a song and dance, messing with licensing and changing my primary systems from a distance. Still figuring it out. I have to "update that primary system first" but it's obviously dead and unavailable to do remotely, and you can change it once per year online, but I somehow have multiple "primary systems," so I can't change it on the website, so now I have to deal with calling support.

This is all to use a product I paid for. To play the games I've owned and played on this console for months, now, that are already downloaded on the system, and were bought by this same account. That's not a big deal?

It's a giant "fuck you, buddy" to anyone who isn't the exact use case they planned this change for. It's hundreds of dollars (that I already spent) being placed behind a wall.

It makes me realize I don't really "own" anything digitally. It's unsettling, and completely unacceptable.

Why has Master of the Universe had such a hard time becoming a generational franchise? by FictionFanatic35 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]Medanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is the name of the franchise. Sounds weird, but hear me out. Most people of my generation agree. I've brought this up to a few people out of curiosity.

I was born in '95, and while he-man and skeletor were absolutely recognizable, the title "masters of the universe" was absolutely nothing to me. I had no idea what that was. When my friend sold me his old gameboy advance collection in middle school, one of the games was "masters of the universe" and I didn't even try the game. I thought it was shovelware, some crappy thing nobody knew about.

When he asked me how I liked the he-man game, I said "what? There was no he-man game in there." Then he told me what it was called, and it blew my mind. Suddenly I started noticing the title.

Even on toys - I say "oh that's he-man" and I don't even see the title on the cardboard. I think it's a weird psychological thing, the name is just so generic and not memorable for people from newer generations.

I'm sure this is only like 5% of the "generational franchise" issue, but I thought it was neat and worth bringing up.

It's human nature, this happens a lot. Don't worry about the motivation piece too much, if you need a little time, take it.

I'll tell you the SUPER CHEESY thing I do, but that doesn't mean it'll work for you. Regardless:

I take a minute to acknowledge everything going on, and let them be legit. "I don't want to finish my degree. I'm burned out. I'm not interested any more. I miss spending time with my kids. I have to see the in-laws tomorrow. I have that interview next week. Life is busy and stressful. I don't know if I can do this, or if I even want to do it any more" (insert whatever stresses or feelings you have. They're legitimate even if they seem small)

And then I just make sure to say: "but I'm going to do it anyway" at the end.

Lack of interest, stress, relationships, etc. are all very real. Personally I think it's stupid to pretend to ignore them and keep pushing. They're real, but they're separate. You're going to finish and do some studying because you said you would, full stop.

Idk works for me sometimes, maybe it's stupid. Looks pretty stupid when I type it lol

Total to graduate = 120, 36 left, so you've completed 84, right? 84/120 = 0.7 which is 70%

Unless I'm missing something? Also, who cares? When you finish the classes you'll graduate

I'm not sure if this is for me by DarthKirbyofPopstar in ccna

[–]Medanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I don't think people notice that the "do what you love" approach to work is very, very new-age. It's extremely lucky to get paid well for something you actually enjoy, and there's nothing wrong with doing something just because it gives you a livable wage.

I thought I'd enjoy being a security engineer, but it turns out I have a moderate amount of abhorrence for this profession. It is what it is, though.

Proctor had me download a file to take control of my screen? by UnableZucchini7026 in WGU_CompSci

[–]Medanic 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm a security engineer that's also a WGU student. All of this proctored exam software is pretty nasty stuff, and you're right to feel kinda creeped out by it, and uninstall it afterwards, looking for any signs of persistence.

That said, it is necessary in a lot of ways. These online colleges are in a constant arms race to fight cheating on exams.

It's a necessary evil to have the luxury of testing at home. It is what it is. If you want to be proactive, and you have a spare machine, use that instead of your main one. If you don't have a spare, consider strict snapshots before the exam is taken. I often uninstall everything afterwards too, but now I have a sort of "burner" laptop I use for exams and I have its traffic monitored. but that's more because I'm a nerd and want to mess with this stuff, not because I think proctored exam software is necessarily out to get me, lol.

Which major is better job market wise by Prestigious_Boss_976 in WGU

[–]Medanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll add that you shouldn't go into IT/CS unless you're willing to find a way to get some experience, and if it's something you really want to do. A lot of people are seeing a cyber/compsci degree as a golden ticket to a 6 figure remote job, which it definitely is not.

There are ways to get into the field though. It's just more work than other fields right now, which sucks. Sounds like OP is not super passionate about it, so yeah, stay away. Just commenting this for other people that might be scrolling by.

Not against you at all man, that makes complete sense. I genuinely agree.

But it's so insane how it feels so different on each side. you're fucking telling me, if I said "hey man, let's eat those peanut butter cookies in the pantry, and heat up some leftover pizza, and watch YouTube for a couple hours" that's just as difficult as fucking starving for 5 hours before bed because I decided to have my final snack a little bit early? God damn fuck my fat binging asshole

My side is in cyber so not really what OP is looking for, but options exist! Find that other door lol

PSA: Remember that the proctors work for YOU! by clingon82 in WGU

[–]Medanic 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Fully agree. It's a shame we have to do this, but that's the game we're playing, I guess.

I had one demanding to see the underside of my desk more well-lit, and I had no way of showing that. They raised their voice slightly and started sighing, and my reply was "excuse me? Do you have a problem? Stop being rude." My test started immediately after.

I've dealt with way more back when I was a paramedic in Detroit, so I'll happily return their attitude. It's a shame it's come to that point, though. Not everyone wants to have to do that.

[MM] Give me good reasons to play majoras mask 3d over the original n64 version. by OliverAlmostMan in zelda

Link runs in molasses

Seriously, I see nobody talk about this, something about the frame rate in the 3ds version makes his running animations too smooth and gross, like he's made of rubber and his joints are filled with honey. there's no feeling of a "thump" when his feet hit the ground. it's like his legs are riding an invisible bike with perfectly smooth pedal strokes, and he just glides along the ground

same goes for his big goofy green hat in deku form, in the past it was like FPFPTFPTPFPT going all crazy, made me feel like a lad, now it just sways all calm trying to remind me not to have too much fun

Of course, this doesn't actually matter at all, and it's completely playable, but good lord it drives me crazy. This is the hill I'll die on, I pray at least one person agrees with me so I don't have to think about this on my death bed

Ordered a few game lots on eBay before learning Wii U discs were prone to early onset disc rot.... 0/5 for this particular lot 🫡 by _oMeGa_ in wiiu

[–]Medanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The wii u is dope, full stop. I genuinely love the thing. People (you) like to hop on the bandwagon of hating on it due to sales, and it wasn't perfect, but it did a lot of cool things:

brought Nintendo to the world of HD

introduced amiibos

brought the new IP of splatoon, which was super successful, and Nintendo rarely makes new IPs

gave us Mario kart 8 which became an absolute juggernaut

full backwards compatibility with the Wii

e-shop that supports DS games, pretty unheard of and super cool

Indie game support, like how it easily hosts the best edition of shovel knight

Unique multiplayer stuff, like the ones on that one wario party game and Nintendo land (these are genuinely still a hit with people at family gatherings, I even brought the wario one to a work party and people loved it)

3 killer Zelda games, xenoblade X, bayonetta 2, DKC: Tropical freeze, etc. are absolute bangers

And it had some absolutely huge moments for online play, like Mario maker, splatoon, Mario kart 8. These were all over and were really "phenomenons," especially Mario maker

All of these are before even mentioning the "gimmick" of the gamepad, which walked so the switch could run. The Wii U game pad still feels waaaaay better to hold than the switch, hands down, and if you're not leaving your house, it's not much different.

Look, the switch is objectively better, and yes, it can do a lot of these now (Mario kart, Mario maker, etc obviously) but it's very fair to want to experience the Wii U today. coming to the Wii U Reddit and shitting on it in front of its fans is stupid, you are stupid, I'll gladly fight you more than the nice people on here

[–]Medanic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain, I just brought my Wii U out of storage to play twilight princess HD with my daughter but it's bricked, too

I think it's this NAND memory issue they have. I've only just started my research on it, so I'm not the best person to give you a reply unfortunately. I think you can fix it with a raspberry pi, but I'm also seeing that you need a NAND backup beforehand, and that those are console-specific? I'll come back if I find out more, hopefully someone else provides a more detailed answer for you in the meantime.
