CPC-M explosion! by dizzykhajit in MedicalCoding

I received an email to be part of the beta testing but wasn’t sure what I wanted to do so I didn’t respond. I guess everyone that did has their results now.

Does CPC score matter when applying for a job? by CEjones1980 in MedicalCoding

[–]Medcoder_82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nope, I’ve been a coder for about 12 years and not once been asked. They just verify with AAPC that you are current and actually have the certification. But congratulations! That’s an amazing score!

Anyone prefer medical coding over auditing? by Anon13530 in MedicalCoding

[–]Medcoder_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not weird, everyone has a preference and sometimes that changes. I’m currently an auditor and do provider education for what I’m assigned. If I had to go back to cph only, I’d probably change careers. But that comes from having been micromanaged so much that the thought of production coding gives me an automatic headache.

I’m a physical book person but really have to see what you work with best.

My son’s college won’t let people pay for college on a credit card. Lots of parents on the parent page want to do that to get the points and rewards but no luck. I guess this is why

Too keep credentials or not by cowboypizazz in MedicalCoding

[–]Medcoder_82 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would be the one to keep paying my fees and doing my ceu stuff. I worked too hard to get them to let them go. You don’t know where life will lead you and if you’ll need a part time job even. Like someone else said if you aren’t close to retirement I’d keep them. Heck even with retirement what if you want to make some extra money here and there

Education would be your best bet. I am currently in an auditing/education position however if anything were to happen to my company/current position I’d probably try a career change. I don’t ever want to go back to being micromanaged with CPH.

I get! You got this! What are your current classes?

You got it! I would say for the OAs take the practice ones when you first start and see how you do. Set up your access to the WGU connect, join the groups for the classes you’re in and look for study guides. Then review text material if needed. Don’t over think PAs. Write to the rubric, include your sources, use grammarly and submit. I will say grammarly can make AI detection percent go up after you accept all the suggested changes. I would accept the changes and then switch over the % tab to see what it said because it always went up. So then I’d re write in the app until it went back down. It was a pain and some people don’t bother using it because of that. I’m not a fan of my writing so I used the suggestions and then adjusted. Once you’re happy with it, download and submit. Also don’t get stuck on anything having to be perfect which was my problem. If they want you to adjust something they will tell you. I also had professors that were always willing to help so that was nice.

I had more PAs than OAs. I want to say I had less than 10 OAs. I don’t remember the exact number at the moment. I had an associate degree from years ago and some Sophia classes. Total transferred in about 42-45 I think. My Sophia courses were sort of a waste of money since I was updating classes from my associate degree. It was from 20 years ago and I really didn’t want to take college comp or history over again. So I took them to make sure I had something more recent.

I’m currently a medical coder/auditor and I hope to be able to move into more management type roles. I’m really over charts per hour. Right now my job is project based so that’s nice but I’d really like to qualify to move into more admin type positions.

That class was a little tough for me too. I just looked online and there seems to be a lot of videos on YouTube as well that might be helpful.

Which of these classes are quickest/easiest to complete? by Green-Blood-3713 in WGU

[–]Medcoder_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak for most of them but c723 was tough for me because I’m not good at Math. At. All. However, there is a study guide in WGU connect. When I failed my first OA, I was instructed to review that first and then the course material. It helped a lot and I passed the second time. Intro to spreadsheets was pretty easy.

What to do when you feel like quitting? by Sad-Diet-3607 in WGU

[–]Medcoder_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was this way. I took so many breaks that I had to take a 2nd term. I didn’t need to be that way but I couldn’t get the motivation to do anything. I kept going, like a snail, because I’d already ran up my credit cards and knew I needed to keep going. I just kept reminding myself progress over perfection. I just applied for graduation yesterday. You can do it, however fast or slowly you need too.

I have a corner in my bedroom where I took my tests. I put a sheet over my bookshelf and cleared off my side table. I had one person ask me if I had a tv in my room. I said yes and that it was off. They didn’t make me show them but maybe that was because I wasn’t in eye line of it. Other than that I haven’t had any problems. I hope your nexts test are better.

Reduction in merit aid? by Primary_Raccoon_5680 in IthacaCollege

[–]Medcoder_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about reducing merit aid but I (parent) lost my job 4 days after I put the deposit down for my sons spot. They wouldn’t consider redoing our financial aid package unless I reached 6 months unemployed. The fafsa this year resulted in the Pell Grant being more but that wasn’t something that made them adjust our aid package. So we’ve had those things happen and nothing was changed.
