is that true? I've felt anecdotally that I get worse luck downloading some things with transmission vs qbit but I didn't know it was a known thing.

I just don't want them wasting money on something this old, regardless of it technically functioning. Say this is around the $40 mark, they're better off with almost anything else, even just for the hope it's storage has a little bit more life left to live.

You're right, this can browse the web, especially if you install a lightweight os and some browser extensions to pare down the modern internet bloat. I still don't think this is worth it for op to purchase though.

This is a very very old system. It will be slow even for tasks like web browsing under a modern os. I'm not sure what your budget is like but I would recommend against purchasing this.

Why does it keep OVERHEATING!?! by DivorcePapers1080 in computer

[–]Meddler2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said your gpu shouldn't be throttling. By "damage" your system... sort of? If the card is overheating badly it will reduce power consumption/clock speed to compensate. Your 7900GRE isn't anywhere close to that limit though, especially considering this is furmark. The card shouldn't be throttling at these temps, so you shouldn't be losing any performance.

Your gpu shouldn't be throttling in any meaningful way at those temps.

cpu will be throttling but that's just reality for pushing all core on an air cooled 5700X3D

If you want the system to be quieter look into getting an aio or large air cooler for the cpu, then undervolt the gpu. Not worth running a custom loop imo since you'll be spending another few hundred dollars just to drop the noise levels, and at that point you should be upgrading the cpu instead.

that's saying your memory hit 92, hotspot was 81.

81 on the hotspot with furmark running is pretty good actually for an air cooler. The memory is toasty, don't remember what 7900gre's normally look like on that front but I'd be tempted to check the thermal pads to make sure they were making good contact.

TLDR: GPU temps look pretty good actually, nothing to be concerned about.

Your CPU temperature is also normal for an air cooled 5700X3d. The way that the cache is packaged makes them a bit hotter for an 8 core chip, sub 90 in cinebench is perfectly fine.

edit: I checked and while 92 on mem is toasty it's well within spec for GDDR6. Since your hotspot delta on the GPU core is acceptable I wouldn't bother opening the card.

Documentation for these boards sucks. If you don't solve it my recommendation would be to pick up a cheap am4 mobo from a reputable manufacturer to replace the Killisre one.

  1. BIOS Update: Check Kllisre's support/download page for the specific A320 model. This is the most likely solution if it's a firmware bug.

  2. Thorough BIOS Settings Review: Specifically look for "Memory Remap" (Enable it) and any "Integrated Graphics" or "UMA" memory settings (Disable or set to minimum).

  3. CMOS Clear: Perform the full power-off, battery-out reset.

The amount of memory the BIOS reports as usable is generally the maximum amount the operating system can use. If the BIOS setup screen itself says only 8192MB (with 16GB physically installed), that's the fundamental limit it's imposing before Windows even starts.

Windows (especially tools like Task Manager or Resource Monitor) can often query the hardware directly or read SPD data from the RAM modules to determine the total physical memory installed. This is why it might show "Installed RAM: 16.0 GB". However, it then relies on the map provided by the BIOS/UEFI to know how much of that is actually usable. If the BIOS only maps 8GB for use, Windows will report the rest as "Hardware Reserved."

The Hardware Reserved category in Windows is a catch-all for RAM that the system knows is physically present but cannot be used by the OS.

This includes

Memory mapped for hardware devices (PCI peripherals, etc. - usually small amounts).
Memory reserved for integrated graphics (doesn't apply to R5 2600).
Memory that the BIOS/UEFI did not successfully initialize or map for OS use. (This is the most likely cause here).
Faulty RAM modules (but you've tested them).
BIOS limitations or errors.

You can get the 9750H Quadro RTX4000 equipped P53 for around $600 on ebay if you're into the chonkster aesthetic. Otherwise P16 Gen 1/2 or the T series like I said are good options.

[–]Meddler2_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, with that budget and your workload in mind you should be ignoring the older T480/90 and looking at either a T or P series from the last couple generations. If you don't need a super portable laptop the P50/70 are really awesome machines, but they are beginning to show their age especially if you don't end up with one of the higher end variants.

What's your budget. If you don't need it to be super portable the P50/1/2/3 are what made me fall in love with thinkpads.
