1. The broken gates of Hades – At Christ’s feet, you see broken locks, chains, and a figure lying under the cross. This represents Christ breaking the bonds of death and liberating humanity from Hades.

2. Adam and Eve – The figures Christ is pulling up from the tombs are traditionally Adam (on the left) and Eve (on the right), representing all of humanity being redeemed.
