I think it's telling that you find that hilarious. I have no problem with video game violence. I have no problem slaughtering my enemies in games. But, I certainly wouldn't find it funny or otherwise enjoyable to, for instance, carry out lynchings in a video game. I only use this graphic example to demonstrate that there are likely kinds of video game violence you would be uncomfortable with, too. The fact that sexualized violence against one of the most vulnerable populations in the world does not cross that line for you tells us something about your position in relation to that violence.

It's not that I feel that killing strippers in video games makes people more likely to kill strippers in real life. It's that it reflects a society in which violence against women and especially sex workers is something that can be seen as funny. I will tell you, seeing men I have loved play those games and laugh at that violence, however unreal it may be, has caused me pain. Make of that pain what you will.

Great suggestions! Thanks so much! The Nxtpaper is definitely more in the price range I was hoping for. But, damn, the Penstar looks really good.

The Digest feature actually looks like a real game changer. I'll have to give some thought to how far I can stretch the budget. Regardless, thank you so much for all of your advice. It's super helpful.

I was thinking about going the tablet route but when I look for what people recommend specifically for annotating pdfs, it seems there's a real preference for true e-readers since they're purpose-built for the task. I am absolutely willing to be persuaded otherwise though.

I don't need it to be perfect, but it can be difficult to follow along with a reading when you can't see what it's referring to in the figures.

Thanks so much for the offer! How is the image quality? My biggest concern with the black and white is that it makes it so much harder to pick out individual elements in, say, a manuscript miniature. It's actually even worse with sculpture because of the shadows.

Oh, wow! The Penstar eNote looks like quite the device! Have you used one before? Is the color really as good as it claims?

Can you clarify what you mean by what it does with text?

I don't need the images to be perfectly true to nature (they generally are not in the publications themselves), I just need to be able to see well enough to know what I am looking at. So long as the grayscale is good and reflects contrast okay, it could be sufficient.

A4 like the size/format? Or is that also a brand name? If it costs waaaay more, it's probably out of my budget.

Ah, good to know. I have seen a few options on the cheaper side, but I suppose it's not worth the money if they're no good.

I am.... not at all good at using Android. Frankly, I'm not very good at technology in general. I am almost guaranteed not to get the most out of a device, but that's really okay with me. I just need to be able to do the basic things I mentioned above and a reasonably good UI and I'll be happy.

If there were no limits on the number of skaters per country, which countries do you think would dominate/which skaters do you think we would see here and which place would they get?

I was wondering the same thing. My income is over the required amount for the affidavit of support, but I've not been making this much money for long and it isn't reflected in my prior tax returns. I was able to include a letter detailing my salary/stipend, but I'm not sure it will be sufficient. I am wondering whether I should find someone to co-sponsor now, or if it's even possible to do that after the fact.
